Judge: Kentucky Taxpayers Will Pay for Bill In Kim Davis Case
Source: lex18
LEX 18) A federal judge has ruled that Kentucky taxpayers will be paying for attorney fees for the couples who sued Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis despite Governor Matt Bevin and commissioner Terry Manuel's argument that Davis did not represent Kentucky when she went against the Supreme Court's ruling.
Bevin and Kentucky Department for the Libraries and Archives commissioner Terry Manuel said that the fees should be against Kim Davis and the Rowan County Clerk's Office.
Kentucky has been ordered by Judge David Bunning to pay $222,695 to the attorneys of April Miller and others. An additional $2,008 was also awarded by Bunning.
Bevin and Manuel's argument is that Davis' decision to go against the Supreme Court's ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges was never directed or approved by a state official. Bunning rejected their appeal on Monday.

Davis made national headlines in 2015 when she refused to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

(50,557 posts)Between the tax breaks for Ken Ham's failing dinosaur museums, and paying the attorney fees their fundamentalist county clerk ran up out of tax dollars, it appears to me that Kentucky is endorsing fundamentalist Christianity as its state religion.

It was his responsibility to obey the law and not the base.
He 'is' in charge, isn't he?

(4,066 posts)It really is that simple. The taxpayers elected her as their county clerk. That makes her an elected representative of the people.
The governor could have called a special session to impeach her and then remove her. He did not. Not that it would be a guaranteed thing that the legislature would even remove her.
Actually, a special session would have been more expensive so they are getting off easy.
