Trump just said alleged NYC terrorist should be killed. That may hurt the case against him

Source: CNBC

President Donald Trump on Wednesday said the man alleged to have perpetrated a terrorist attack in New York City "should get death penalty."

Yet by weighing in on his preferred outcome for the case, Trump may have made the job of prosecutors more difficult.

Within minutes of Trump's tweet, lawyers on social media began to comment on what impact it could have on Saipov's prosecution. "Mr. President, we all know he should get the death penalty. But when *you* say it, it makes it harder for DOJ to make that happen," wrote former Chief Asst. U.S. Attorney Andrew McCarthy on Twitter.

National security lawyer Mark Zaid wrote, "This is called potentially tainting jury pool & could impact alleged perpetrator's ability to secure fair trial. SMH #Unpresidential

I'll bet he doesn't know or remember that Richard Nixon got read the riot act for comments about Charlie Manson. But then to Trump, his opinion is ever so important, that he must inflict it on the public at large.

On edit...
Actually, it appears that IS EXACTLY what they are trying to do:

Trump: US justice system a 'laughing stock,' 'joke'
President Trump on Wednesday referred to the U.S. justice system as a "joke" and a "laughing stock."
Speaking during a Cabinet meeting Wednesday, Trump mourned the lives lost in the attack Tuesday in New York.
He said the country needs to come up with "punishment that's far quicker and far greater than the punishment these animals are getting right now."

Can they pursue this separately as a federal offense, perhaps if tied to international terrorism? I don't know.

they could simply take the perp out of the news cycle and DOTUS would cease to remember the terrorist exists.

"In Piaget's theory of cognitive development, infants develop this understanding by the end of the "sensorimotor stage," which lasts from birth to about two years of age. ... According to this view, it is through touching and handling objects that infants develop object permanence."

"The Importance of Object Permanence. Mastering the concept of object permanence is a major developmental milestone in a baby's life. ... Also important to object permanence is realizing that other people exist, even when they leave."

Red meat for his supporters, AND if his comments end up causing a mistrial or lighter sentence then even more inflammatory to his minions as evidence of a 'liberal' legal system.
