Source: Huffington Post
Devin Patrick Kelley, 26, has been identified as the suspect in Sundays shooting at a church in Sutherland Springs, Texas, according to multiple reports.
ABC News reports he is a white male from outside of San Antonio, possibly with a U.S. military background. After fleeing the shooting scene, the suspect was found dead in his vehicle in neighboring Guadalupe County, Wilson County authorities said.
The exact circumstances of the gunmans death are still under investigation, a statement from the Wilson County Sheriffs Office and the Texas Department of Public Safety said.
The shooting at First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, which is east of San Antonio, occurred at 11:20 a.m. local time. The incident claimed 25 lives and wounded 20 others, Wilson County authorities said.

(15,294 posts)no one calls the cops? Maybe fewer people would've died if there was a 911 call as soon as he was spotted.

(15,294 posts)auto gunfire coming from his property a few days before. The shooter was dishonorably discharged and not eligilbe to own guns. I'd bet the neighbors knew he's been kicked out of the AF. A simple call would've allowed law enforcement to pay him a visit and confiscate his weapons.

Kelley is a white male outside of San Antonio, ABC News reported. He was a former member of the U.S. Air Force from 2010 to 2014, when he was court-martialed in May of that year and dishonorably discharged, according to CBS News.

(51 posts)Which is the biggest issue here. How someone gets away with only a misdemeanor after physically beating his wife and child and getting a discharge from the Air Force is beyond me.
Had he been charged with a felony this could have been avoided.

(51 posts)According to our local police he purchased the rifle through Academy Sports. So a background check had to have been performed.
No idea how he managed to pass it, unless the BATFE or someone dropped the ball running his data.

(5,586 posts)Possibly wounding and / or killing the suspect shortly after he fled. Other sites report that Kelley was dishonorably discharged from the Air Force.
