Why interviewing Richard Spencer was a risk worth taking

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by muriel_volestrangler (a host of the Latest Breaking News forum).

Source: Guardian UK

This journalist seems to diminish and demolish this Spencer idiot in a way that I haven't really seen from US reports - is it because he has an educated English accent or that US reporters don't ask the right questions?

It can't be that the US has black journalists every bit as astute or intelligent as our Gary; it has hundreds - might it be that he confounds this terrible notion that he represents a totally different culture/country where White Nationalism doesn't really exist - the UK has its problems regarding immigrants and black/any-other-colour-except-puce-white but not an any way as bad as the situation in the US.

The question is WHY reporting is so very different - you can see that Spencer was expecting a white reporter and certainly didn't expect that a 'mere' black could show him in his true nasty colours in so short a time with so few words. Trump would do well to refuse any UK interview since he would be equally shamed (if anything could shame him).

it's just one big metastasized tumor spawned by the Howard Stern Show.

Don't want to criticise (actually, I do) but your media is every bit as pathetic as it was during the campaign; in fact it seems more partisan and hysterical.
If Americans had to choose - Either The Trump Circus AND the fawning/critical TV/press, or neither which would they choose? Do they feed from each other?
Unfortunately I know the answer.

Good Old Democracy.

A lot of U.S. articles with the jerk wanted to pursue a "here's the glamorous new face of White Nationalism!" angle that they consider sexy and are not too interested in challenging the guy too much.

That was a very good take down. Love how these White Nationalists try to couch their bigotry: an ethno-state is merely a 'safe' space for white people, how American blacks should be grateful for having been brought to this country as slaves and on and on and on.

These cockroach ideas need to be exposed to the light of day. Allow people to hear them in their full, disgraceful glory. Because marketing them in 'nicer' language is meant only to disguise the essence of their malicious substance: racism dressed up for the 21st Century. Same old, same old. Don't let Spencer and his Bigot Army get away with it!

Kudos to this Brit. He pushed back in exactly the right way.

EXACTLY the right way.
Creatures like him make me ashamed to be white. Does this make me a race-traitor?
(a word plucked from early Nazi tracts, salvaged by these idiots 100 years later)

such as the National Enquirer, which was usually good for a laugh...'I had Elvis' Space-Alien Love Child'. Used to be that the Brits were the ones with the crazy press. When and why did ignoramuses actually start believing this tripe? Was it Rupert Murdock? Was it simply unscrupulous politicians' escalation of the 'Southern Strategy'? Between Bannon and Murdock is not a good place to be.
