Roy Moore is refusing to debate his Democratic Senate opponent

Democratic candidate Doug Jones is calling Roy Moore an “embarrassment” for running away from a debate

U.S. Senate candidate Roy Moore has ducked a debate against his opponent Doug Jones ahead of the special election to replace the former seat of now-Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

WHNT-TV and AL.com invited both of the candidates to participate in a live, commercial-free debate. The Jones campaign accepted, but the Moore campaign declined.

The local news channel says it offered the Moore campaign six different date possibilities, but Moore refused every one of them. WHNT said that senatorial candidates should be held accountable, but Moore is neglecting that duty.

The Jones campaign responded to the dereliction, suggesting that Moore's woeful platform explains why the former judge won't appear on stage with him.

Maybe it is because I was born & lived in the DEEP SOUTH most of my life except for those few years I was in the US Military that I've become so incredibly cynical. However, the further you get from population centers like Atlanta, Georgia where I am the worse people are in terms of their "US vs Them" mentality that is driven into them by the incredibly toxic Right Wing Conservative Christian Conspiracy Theory Talk Radio propaganda that is on the AM radio 24/7. Of course it is the typical nasty national voices we all know about but then there are the local voices who are far worse & have far more power over the people's minds...These voices are usually preachers or claim to be & YOU, I & everyone on DU & who do not fit in their ignorant racist bigoted Bronze Age worldview they literally HATE & FEAR far more than any foreign power like Russia or China!

...This mentality is the product of 25-30yrs of talk radio filling these people's minds with garbage about how dangerous we Liberals are. I honestly use to get a kick out of listening to it over the past 10-15yrs when I would drive from Atlanta to Live Oak, Florida to visit my Mom before she died several months ago. However, I now feel incredibly guilty for not taking it seriously & laughing at it.

I sure hope I'm wrong!! However, when is the last time you saw Mitch McConnell come out against or at least question a GOP Senate Candidate publicly after the very first sexual abuse claim hits the media like he is doing now? Even the establishment Republicans are freaking out now that the disgusting game of HATE POLITICS they played to hurt President Obama has gone completely out of control & now a PSYCHO, Steve Bannon, has taken control of it!

Again, I SURE HOPE ALABAMA PROVES ME WRONG!! PLEASE!!!!

When, if ever, has any Republican publicly criticized another for sexual misconduct accusations...Especially the very story to hit the media! LOL!!

They know the freakshow they embraced in 2010 is now set to take full control of the party & they're scared!

I was about to post that but saw you beat me to it. He should ask for anyone from Moore's campaign to represent it at the debate and just debate the positions if no one shows up, but still get his ideas out there for everyone to see/hear.

How about this: Jones agrees to an interview with the most popular reporters from five to 10 Alabama TV stations and newspapers. They create two-thirds of the questions from Moore’s prior actions and his current campaign literature, and make the other third not about Moore.

I hope Doug Jones uses this to trounce Moore in the election race. I can't imagine that Alabamans want a gutless wonder to represent them in D.C., even if he is a brain-dead theocrat. The TV ads ought to write themselves.

30-60 minutes of free air time for his opponent may loosen Mr. Moore's tongue.

nothing hurts a riding cowboy more than being called yellow-bellied by his opponent. Challenge him to show how manly he is...to get off his horse...

He doesn't exactly have to call him a coward, but should point out that Moore has deliberately dodged every chance to publicly debate the issues, and why would he do that if he wasn't afraid people would see how lacking he is?

One of the things Donny voters like is his combativeness, especially when he's wrong. It's clear they know he's wrong but they like him sticking to those bleeding heart liberals.

So Moore slinking away from debates will kill the enthusiasm from Donny's hate base.
