Trump: I turned down Time's 'Person of the Year'

Source: The Hill

President Trump said Friday that he turned down being named Time's "Person of the Year" after the magazine only told him he "probably" would be selected.

Trump's tweet Friday afternoon follows an online readerss poll that shows Trump being outperformed by singer Taylor Swift and San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulin Cruz for this year's honor.

This year's winner will be announced on Dec. 6.

Clearly it's a preemptive strike against the likelihood they'll pick someone else, something his ego couldn't stand. So he's all, "Oh, I got it last year so I really don't need it again, so that's fine with me, but of course they'd have given it it to me if I hadn't turned it down, since of course I am the most important person in the world, but since I told them I didn't want it this year they'll have to find someone else because they were only ever going to pick me and didn't even have a second choice figured out. Because of course it was always going to be me."

The framed copy of Time magazine was hung up in at least five of President Trump’s clubs, from South Florida to Scotland. Filling the entire cover was a photo of Donald Trump.

“Donald Trump: The ‘Apprentice’ is a television smash!” the big headline said. Above the Time nameplate, there was another headline in all caps: “TRUMP IS HITTING ON ALL FRONTS . . . EVEN TV!”

Foreign leaders know that they way to deal with him is through his enormous ego so they roll out the red carpet, parades, gold everything, etc. Maybe if the Dems did the same we could fool him into doing our bidding for us in a round about way. I heard that Chuck and Nancy meet with him along with Mitch and Paul next week. Should they pretend to kiss his feet to get what we want? Is he stupid enough to fall for it if they do attempt to try the flattery treatment?

There's an on-line poll, but that doesn't determine who gets it. The editorial board decides based on who they think has been the most influential person during the year (but not necessarily in a good way), and the decision is kept secret, known to almost nobody, until just before they publish the issue. Time wouldn't tell Trump or anyone else whether they were considering them. Trump is talking out his ass as usual, but he's guarding his little snowflake of an ego against the possibility that someone else will be chosen.

Please, God, let it be Bob Mueller....

This cover — dated March 1, 2009 — looks like an impressive memento from Trump’s pre-presidential career. To club members eating lunch, or golfers waiting for a pro-shop purchase, it seemed to be a signal that Trump had always been a man who mattered. Even when he was just a reality TV star, Trump was the kind of star who got a cover story in Time.

But that wasn’t true. The Time cover is a fake.

Oh, right, Donald Trump. This is the first time I've ever heard of someone "turning down being named Time's Person of the Year." ( do they have that choice?) In other words, he didn't want to be shown as a runner-up to Taylor Swift, or whoever else, or was afraid (more likely) that this year's reasons would undermine and ridicule last year's reasons. Seriously, nine other presidents have been named twice (FDR three times). I doubt Dolt 45's reasons were that he didn't want to "be a hog" and accept the title twice. He DID want everyone to know he was in contention. Just another bizarre day in the life of DJT that we can all share...

Maybe President Duh Donald's real motive for the turndown is that it would be too embarrassing to lose to her!

As for Taylor Swift, she must be deploying her fan base to turn it into a popularity contest. The highlights of her year involve getting caught in a lie about song lyrics read to her by Kanye West, announcing she'd decided to put her songs into music streaming after her record label cut a deal that put everyone on her label into music streaming...and successfully took a groper to court!

Time awards Person of the Year to the person or people who most influenced the news, for good or evil.

The two most obvious ones are:

Good? Jack Dorsey and Biz Stone, who invented Twitter.

Evil? Kim Jong Un, who brought back public executions. (On edit: One of the people he had executed was his ex-girlfriend, who was shot for violating the pornography laws, not for writing the song "Excellent Horse-Like Lady.&quot
