WH accuses Schumer, Pelosi of 'pettiness' for pulling out of Trump meeting

Source: The Hill

BY JORDAN FABIAN - 11/28/17 12:51 PM EST

The White House on Tuesday accused Democratic congressional leaders of “pettiness” after they abruptly pulled out of a meeting with President Trump.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders encouraged Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to attend the meeting with their GOP counterparts to discuss a government funding deal

“The president’s invitation to the Democrat leaders still stands and he encourages them to put aside their pettiness, stop the political grandstanding, show up and get to work,” Sanders said in a statement. “These issues are too important.”

Schumer and Pelosi canceled their appearance at the White House after Trump tweeted earlier Tuesday that he didn't "see a deal" to avoid a government shutdown.

Ryan, McConnell: Dems' 'antics' put government operations at risk

BY JOSH DELK - 11/28/17 12:52 PM EST

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) ripped their Democratic counterparts for backing out of a meeting with President Trump, saying their "antics" are risking a government shutdown.

"We have important work to do, and Democratic leaders have continually found new excuses not to meet with the administration to discuss these issues. Democrats are putting government operations, particularly resources for our men and women on the battlefield, at great risk by pulling these antics," McConnell and Ryan said in a joint statement Tuesday.

The statement came shortly after Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) pulled out of a scheduled bipartisan meeting with Trump at the White House to negotiate a deal ahead of the Dec. 8 funding deadline.

Schumer and Pelosi backed out of the meeting after Trump tweeted Tuesday morning that he didn't "see a deal" with Democrats to avoid a government shutdown.

If gov't breaks down due to incompetence or disagreement, they win again.

If they obstruct Dems' production, the win again.

The GOP WANTS gov't to fail so they can say that gov't does not work..

If I was brave I would drive out to the local Walmart, go up to the 67 year old white male greeter at the door and ask him to list the reasons why he is in favor of the Trump/GOP tax bill.

Or the auto mechanic across the street, or the secretary over at the lawyers office, etc.

Why do hard working people, doing honorable jobs, working more in one day than Donald Trump has worked in 3 lifetimes, support this shit?

Tue Nov 28, 2017, 04:26 PM
Nov 2017

my father was a physics professor and one day he took me to work and i met a machinist who helped build some of the equipment they would use for their physics experiments.

this was probably in 1971 or so.

so here was a guy 3 years away from his retirement, never made more than $25k/year in his life, no plans for any way to make more money, no rich uncle, nothing. not even a lottery ticket (this was way before powerball anyway, in fact, i don't think there was even a lottery at all in ohio at the time).

yet he was a republican, and for one reason only, he wanted lower taxes for the rich. he didn't really care about his own taxes, because plus or minus a few percent didn't change his lifestyle one bit.

but he was convinced that somehow, someday, he was going to be rich, and when that happened, he wanted the government to take as little as possible.

he was literally willing to pay in real life to make his fantasy a bit sweeter.

later in life i heard the following:

"Socialism never took root in America because the poor see themselves not as an exploited proletariat, but as temporarily embarrassed millionaires"

yup, that was this guy, somehow.

We got them around us. Not many, but hard headed and not pliable. Personally, I'm done with them. Some are 'unusually quiet' lately. If ya know what I'm saying.

They must 'come to the end of themselves' by themselves. Their speech, 'thinking' and 'reasoning' sets my teeth on an edge of colossal magnitude. To preserve my blood pressure, I do not engage anymore.
