Sam Brownback pushes Senate to confirm him as ambassador for religious liberty

WASHINGTON — Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback worked Capitol Hill on Wednesday in an effort to get his stalled nomination as ambassador for religious liberty moving through a recalcitrant Congress.

Brownback, who told reporters last week he was hoping for a vote on his confirmation by Christmas, huddled with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

Brownback's would-be Sherpa, Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Kan., said he was "very" confident a vote would soon be scheduled. Roberts added he planned to talk with his "good friend" Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer.

"Gov. Brownback is the right man for this particular job, it's been a passion of his for as long as I've known him and he will make an excellent ambassador," said Roberts, who accompanied Brownback to his meeting with McConnell.

President Donald Trump in July nominated Brownback to serve as the next ambassador-at-large for international religious freedom, but the confirmation has stalled in the Senate, posing an awkward situation for the would-be former governor and the state. McConnell's office had no update on his status and Democrats say they have not put any holds on Brownback's confirmation.

For one thing wouldn't this be an egregious violation of church and state laws? And two, what does this job do? Promote anti gay discrimination? What?

I keep hearing that they need a tax cut, instead of paying this twit that broke an entire state, and now it's trying to be foisted across the entire country as we speak in the US Senate, why should my tax dollars pay this twit to be an ambassador, save me and you and millions of others his pay check and life style of hob nobbling to spread is racist bigoted remarks>

I thought in the bible that your suppose to help the needy, well this jerk didn't make that criteria, he doesn't even come close to being or having biblical compassion-------------look at Kansas

should retire already, he has made a fortune scamming the gullible. He is going to get his arse kicked for being late reporting in to wherever he is going, Heaven or Hell. I wonder if $arah Payme was vying for the post, when she was visiting last week at Rand Paul's office? These people NEVER give up, always wanting to latch on to the taxpayer teat.

Does he get a palatial edifice with a colonnade to work from? Does he wear a uniform festooned with honors? Does he get a big hat with scrambled eggs on the visor? Will he speak to the multitudes from the balcony?

Would he advocate for all religions and religious beliefs?

I have a Persian friend who is a Zoroastrian.
I'm Buddhist.

Or would he only advocate for evangelical Christianity?

Know he is fully capable of totally fucking up whatever he touches I am totally in favor of this position only so long as Sammy is in charge.

He closed the schools in Kansas - he may well close the churches in the country!

Go, Sammy, Go!
