At a breakfast with reporters Thursday morning, less than 24 hours before the Senate votes to overhaul the American tax code and kill the Affordable Care Acts individual mandate, Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) said her Republican colleagues have not yet secured her vote.
With the bill still in flux, and furious last-minute negotiations going on behind closed doors, Collins laid out several problems she has with the legislation: the mistake of including repeal of the individual mandate, concerns about a trigger proposal pushed by the Senates deficit hawks, too-deep cuts to the corporate tax rate, and the elimination of most state and local tax (SALT) deductions.
There are a lot of concerns I want to fix, she said. I am not committed to vote for this bill. Who knows whats going to happen on the Senate floor during the vote-a-rama.
Here are Collins key concerns and demands, several of which may not be addressed in the final package, putting her vote in jeopardy.

Some are deficit hawks, others want more for the Child Tax credit, and others don't want a "trigger". The bill is apparently being amended continually to address some of those concerns.
She just wants her name in the headlines. McCain is sucking all the oxygen from the room and she is jealous. She will vote for this bill no matter what.

(171 posts)It isn't credible.
The only way she will vote against this is if her vote doesn't matter.

(1,180 posts)And no Citizens United ruling? I say this bill would be DOA if every Senator voted his or hers conscience and werent beholden to their campaign benefactors.
Sucks to be an American in 2017.

(38,427 posts)anything can happen.. Now, I don't say this lightly and the probability is very strong that this sh*t bucket bill will pass as expected...but I never thought the following could happen:
1. An Afro-American would be elected president
2. There would be an attack on America in New York City and 3 other locations..2996 people killed.
3. Trump could possibly be elected to anything
4. A president of the United States would tweet all kinds of stupid things
5. An all electric car company would start from scratch, and eventually sell tens of thousands of electric cars.
6. A hand held computer/telephone would be available to everyone in the U.S.A at a reasonable cost..(like the thing used in Original Star Trek series., (beam me up Scotty, no we can't beam anyone up, but we talk on that thing like the TV show)
7. I could go to a store and purchase a 60 inch TV for under $700.00
yes, likely this sh*t bucket will pass, but it might not.
