(128,916 posts)so the Senate wouldn't have to amend it to death to be eligible for reconciliation under their rules and pass with < 60 votes and have to have it go back to the House again.
They may have snuck (draconian) policy things in there that weren't related to the bill subject.

(80 posts)They threw in a Ted Cruz buy off allowing 529 college savings to be used for home school expenses and an exemption from taxes of endowments for the few colleges Betsy Devos supports. Neither of which are related to the budget. Can't wait to see if Cruz will throw a fit.

(128,916 posts)which was also a violation, and was the 3rd provision (so far) that they found. There may be more in there!
And that buy-off for Devos was also one for Teabagger Toomey as I understand.

The House will revote on the bill it passed to much fanfare Tuesday afternoon, fearing procedural violations in the version it already passed.
The vote will likely take place Wednesday. The Senate is still expected to take up the bill later Tuesday evening.
Several provisions in the House-passed overhaul appear to violate the procedural rules of the Senate, according to Democrats, and the Senate will need to vote on whether to waive the rules and keep those provisions in the bill, which takes 60 votes. Republicans will most likely lose those votes, striking the contested provisions from the bill and changing the language of the legislation. After the bill gets a final stamp of approval in the Senate, the bill will return to the house for a revote, likely Wednesday morning.
One possible violation involves the use of 529 savings accounts for home-schooling, and private elementary and high schools. Another exempts colleges from a new endowment tax if they have fewer than 500 students paying tuition. Another objection appears technical in nature, as the bill repeals a section by its number, instead of the title of the section.

(15,286 posts)the Toomey tax break that applies only to Hillsdale College and the Cruz ask that adds a 529 savings acct tax break for home/private schools.
Toomey's probaby wetting himself waiting to vote for the tax cuts, so his vote won't change, it's just his "hail mary" pass to Hillsdale fell incomplete. I can't imagine Cruz won't vote for it either, but I don't know how much he had invested in his "sweetner".

"Members are advised that we expect Senate Democrats to insist on a Byrd Point of Order on the Conference Report to Accompany H.R. 1, which is likely to be sustained," said guidance from House Majority Whip Steve Scalise's (R-La.) office, which was sent to GOP lawmakers.
"As such, Members are further advised that an additional procedural vote on the Motion to Concur is expected tomorrow morning, which will clear the bill for President Trumps signature," his office added.

at Jimmy Dore - don't know if that's allowed here as he is quite critical of many democrats - so I won't put the link, but looks like Bernie and Ron Widen (sp?) found the loop holes. Well done! Another few days grace to get the attention of the masses and shame the GOP.
I sure hope the silence on how this delay came about isn't because Sanders deserves some credit. It sure looks like the silent treatment has returned big time on MSM.
