VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - Pope Francis used his Christmas message on Monday to call for a negotiated two-state solution to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, after U.S. President Donald Trump stoked regional tensions with his recognition of Jerusalem as Israels capital.
Francis spoke of the Middle East conflict and other world flashpoints in his Urbi et Orbi (to the city and the world) address, four days after more than 120 countries backed a U.N. resolution urging the United States to reverse its decision on Jerusalem.
Let us pray that the will to resume dialogue may prevail between the parties and that a negotiated solution can finally be reached, one that would allow the peaceful coexistence of two states within mutually agreed and internationally recognized borders, he said, referring to the Israelis and Palestinians.
We see Jesus in the children of the Middle East who continue to suffer because of growing tensions between Israelis and Palestinians, he said in his address, delivered from the balcony of St. Peters Basilica to tens of thousands of people.

(5,376 posts)I think that Jerusalem should be an independant city-state, like the Vatican.

Muslims have two sacred cities. Two sacred cities that non-Muslims aren't allowed into.

(8,200 posts)I don't give a damn if its Christianity, Islam or Judaism. They are a constant source of trouble resulting in countless deaths. Any good they do is far out shadowed by the evil they bring on mankind.

As are nation-states, economics, politics, and a host of other wholly imaginary concepts that exists nowhere but out own minds. In other words: 'Myth' as per your misuse of the word.
I get it, though... it's important to our bias we focus only on one, while simultaneously rationalizing the existence of others.

(23,971 posts)geographically speaking, it would make sense to have 2+ Palestinian states (West Bank, Gaza). no reason Jerusalem can't work as the capitol for both Israel and Palestine.
