Sessions Is Interviewed in Mueller's Russia Investigation
Source: New York Times
WASHINGTON Attorney General Jeff Sessions was questioned for several hours last week by the special counsels office as part of the investigation into Russias meddling in the election and whether the president obstructed justice since taking office, according to a Justice Department spokeswoman.
The meeting marked the first time that investigators for the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, are known to have interviewed a member of Mr. Trumps cabinet.
The spokeswoman, Sarah Isgur Flores, confirmed that the interview occurred in response to questions from The New York Times.
Mr. Sessions announced in March that he had recused himself from all matters related to the 2016 election, including the Russia inquiry. The disclosure came after it was revealed that Mr. Sessions had not told Congress that he met twice with the Russian ambassador to the United States at the time, Sergey I. Kislyak, during the campaign. Mr. Sessions was an early supporter of Mr. Trumps presidential run.

(60,010 posts)If Sessions told Mueller what he told Congress, he'd be repeating the lies, = felony, cause the lies can now be known..
If Sessions did not tell Mueller the same story he told Congress: Mueller can still indict Sessions for lying to Congress, = felony.
Basically sessions lied to Congress and already is in deep doo doo for that, and if he lies to Mueller, double deep doo doo, no win situation at all except to turn on Trump.
Bush's AG, Gonzalez, lied his head off to Congress investigation, but no one ever pursued him for that.

(60,010 posts)Remember at that Oct. 18 Congressional hearing, this happened:
Sen. Leahy to Sessions:
1. You wrote No on Russia conversations.
2. You later testified I do not recall.
3. "If you could not recall, then you could not have answered my first question Yes or No.
That's the hole he fell in, and that's the hole Mueller can use.

picked these people to be in a White House that he wanted to control.
* and don't forget the NRA, RNC, wikileaks, Nunues, Ryan, McConnell and Dana Rohrabacher's
Russia connections. Those unceasing and unneeded hearings into HRC used data that the
Russians stole by computer hacking.

(7,433 posts)It's not "almost". Putin did pick people to be in the White House, including Pence as VP (through Manafort). And Trumpy acquiesced.
An independent journalist with connections to the Justice Department wrote a few days ago that Mueller will prosecute OVER 270 individuals. Mueller's investigation is wide and deep. It will encompass an international money laundering network of which Trumpy is a node. Trumpy will also be implicated in a direct conspiracy with Russian oligarchs/mafia figures to weaken the federal government and infiltrate the GOP. It's all happening in real time.

(7,433 posts)THAT'S the extent to which Trumpy has corrupted the government. My guess is that Sessions has NOT flipped on Trumpy, that he's relying on political maneuvers and possibly a pardon to save his ass. If he DID flip, then he's probably gotten direction from Mueller to lay low and resign AFTER the investigations are complete.
Another signal of vast and deep corruption is the enabling of the entire GOP to corruption. Mueller and NY AG Schneiderman have enough evidence to prosecute the entire GOP leadership on Conspiracy charges, including Conspiracy to Obstruct Justice and Conspiracy against the United States. An independent journalist with ties to the DoJ reported a couple of days ago that over 270 individuals will be prosecuted by Mueller and his team. This is serious stuff that might wipe out the entire GOP leadership-- who willingly accepted money from Russian oligarchs/mob figures who take their orders from Putin. Sessions is in the middle of all of it.

(60,010 posts)Which means at some point down the road, sooner, not later, the GOP party members, including some in Congress, are gonna be indicted.
which may make their actions in Congress now, illegal, I would hope.

(51,129 posts).... There is absolutely no doubt Trump's motive in firing Comey was to eliminate the person investigating #TrumpRussia and to obstruct the FBI investigation. That is criminal action.
The action was taken be three persons, Trump, Sessions and Rosenstein, and therefore conspiracy statutes prevail: .....

Outright, provable lies would have to be extemporaneous, though. Definitely the weak spot in Beau's defenses.
