President Donald Trump will reportedly declassify the infamous memo written by House Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes (R-CA) if the House votes for its release.
CNNs Manu Raju tweeted Tuesday that the president was considering the declassification of a four-page memo that has become a conservative talking point, spurring on the #ReleaseTheMemo campaign after Republicans took to right-wing news outlets to tease its contents.

After Raju tweeted the scoop, Lawfares Susan Hennessey brought up concerns other whether the memo had been reviewed by multiple agencies and if its been the subject of national security scrutiny.

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) admitted to the Huffington Post last week that the short memo is an aggregated list of data that supposedly prove widespread abuse at the Department of Justice. He also admitted it was written by congressional staffers.

(23,946 posts)the memo, if not edited now, be released. It will show how low Nunez and Shitler will go and how deep they are into shocking conspiracy theories.
The memo is an embarrassment. It was only intended for The Base to speculate about and keep on the boil.

One thing about that document: Republican staffers wrote it.
The document, which alleges abuses of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act during the FBIs quiet counterintelligence investigation into the Trump campaign in the final months of the 2016 election, was actually compiled by Republican staffers on the House Intelligence Committee. That committee voted along partisan lines this week to allow any member of Congress to take a peek at the document themselves. Republican members soon flocked to a secure room to read the memo written by their allies and then ran to tell the press about it.

(36,869 posts)Neat precedent... Declassify for partisan politics with no regard for security issues.
Trump tries to isolate himself from blame by putting the first onus on the republican House.
But it is his decision in the end.

(9,670 posts)If the Republicans wanted to pull off a humdinger of a distraction, they sure as hell shouldn't have handed the project over to Devin Nunes, the least respected Congressman in Washington, which says a lot.

(15,805 posts)Like a publisher leaking little tibbits of a book to titillate more interest in anticipation of its release, Nunes is trying to make his super secret memo look legitimate with rubber stamp, "SECRET". He has a long history of lying and making up tall tales to cover Trump, and he's back at it again.
