CALIFORNIA PARENTS BANNED FROM TALKING TO THEIR 13 KIDS FOR THREE YEARS, JUDGE RULES AFTER TORTURE ARREST
BY LAUREN GILL ON 1/25/18 AT 10:35 AM
The California parents accused of torturing and shackling their 13 children arent allowed to talk to their kids for three years, a judge ruled on Wednesday.
In a brief court appearance, David and Louise Turpin were ordered by Riverside County Judge Emma Smith not to contact the children except through their lawyer, the Desert Sun reported. They are also banned from obtaining firearms and coming within 100 yards of any of the kids, except for court hearings, until 2021. You must not contact them, except through your lawyer, Smith said.
David and Louise Turpin are each facing nearly 40 charges, including torture and false imprisonment. They have both pleaded not guilty. Cops arrested the duo on January 14 after a 14-year-old girl crawled out of the window of the familys Southern California home and called 911. When police arrived, they say they discovered three of the children shackled to their beds and all of them severely malnourished. A 29-year-old child weighed just 82-pounds, authorities said.
The children remain in hospital, where they are grouped together in a separate wing. And the kidsall whose names start with the letter Jare slowly beginning to tell their story to investigators, one of the cases prosecutors told the Associated Press on Wednesday.

(22,156 posts)Religion is what these folks were so called following (not sure of fringe, Pentecostal...7th Day Adv...).
I don't know of any religion (even the ones I mentioned before) ever allowed this kind of treatment. The folks I knew that belonged in the ones mentioned above never advocated such a thing.
And what's really bad about it, is where were the other adults who had to be aware of something going on here before...surely not everything was done in total isolation, e.g., fellow church goers, relatives, anyone?
My heart goes out to the children. The parents? They need to be chained up like their kids were, and starved like they did their kids...I know it's a horrible thought and don't really want, but gosh!

(47,333 posts)are an ongoing serious threat to the children.
The three year limitation generally only means that at the end of three years,
there will be another evaluation to determine parental contact with children.

(47,333 posts)Sounds like perhaps some of the children are expressing a desire
at some point to have contact with their parents.
And perhaps the evaluators see some hope of limited contact
in the future.

Child abusers are irredeemable and never change. They have as much business around kids as child porn makers

(4,267 posts)I highly doubt that these two are going to be free in three years to meet the kids in person. Simply can't be denied that they are due severe or lifetime prison sentences. They had kids chained to things, living in squalor and practically unaware of the outside world. A 29 year old child who weighed 82 pounds? Outright starvation.
This more likely refers to phone calls or visits in windowed booths, I would guess. Nobody's going to force the kids to go, and they don't have to accept any requests.
I had some initial worry about a Stockholm type situation luring them back, but the fact that they're starting to open up to investigators is a good sign.
