Cornell frat punished for "pig roast" sex contest

Source: CBS News

ITHACA, N.Y. -- A fraternity at Cornell University has been placed on probation for conducting a sex contest members dubbed the "pig roast" in reference to the weight of women they slept with.

The university said officials launched an investigation of the Zeta Beta Tau chapter last year after multiple reports about the secret game in which new members could get points by having sex with women.

In case of a tie, the win would go to the member who had sex with the heaviest woman.

<snip>

The school said the fraternity will be required to hire a live-in advisor during the two-year probation, be subject to external reviews and participate in ongoing education about sexual violence.

Fraternity life never appealed to me.

However, I'm going to stay positive and post this song by Mika:

the best and the brightest. That idea is sure out the window. The fraternity should have been disbanded and the members jettisoned out of Cornell Universityl forever. Worse than total idiots!

Talk about a bringdown. The school that gave us Sagan now has jamokes like this on campus. What a bummer.

All schools did.

Oh...slight correction, Cornell gave us Kurt Vonnegut, Gabrielle Giffords, and the guy who invented the air conditioner. Carl Sagan was a University of Chicago graduate.

Who the hell do they think they are? Like their hero DT, once again we have sub-par and mediocre men thinking that they have the right to decide a woman's worth based upon her look and body. Guys like this make me ill.

I knew quite a few men AND women who had such contests in college almost 20 years ago.

It's not just rich brats, or kids who spend all day on Tinder, or particularly stupid people. It's a lot of kids you'd never expect to do it, because the mix of hormones, newfound freedom and peer pressure in college is incredibly hard to resist for some.

...don't you know that none of the people posting on this thread were ever young and STUPID!

Seriously, you would think, by some of the responces, that these guys RAPED and MURDERED these girls instead of just had sex with them. Now, before you think I am trying to rationalize their behavior, let me make it clear that I think what they were doing is childish, hurtful and insensitive, and should be roundly condemned as stupid and unacceptable behavior for any university organization. It's just that I remember being in college (wasn't into the frat thing), and even though I managed to comport myself with 'reasonable' behavior, I kinda' remember a few times when my actions could have been perceived as 'boorish', at the least...and yet, here I am, a full-fledged, tree-hugging liberal, trying to understand what went wrong with our country somewhere along the way to our ongoing impersonation of 1930's Germany.

All I'm saying is, yes, these guys were acting like creeps - I get it - but, don't just write them off as complete losses for the rest of their lives! Hell, like I said, I did some stupid, even 'asshole-ish' shit when I was younger...but I learned to NOT do stuff like that by having to face the consequences of my actions. Maybe, some, or even ALL of these guys can learn to NOT be hurtful and insensitive by having to confront the emotional damage they have caused by their reckless behavior.

Don't throw them away like useless garbage...change them into people who THINK about how their actions ripple through the rest of the fabric of society. It may not be as hard as we might think.

What specifically leads you to believe the derision and mocking they receive is equivalent to writing them off for the rest of their lives?

If you want to appear more righteous than everyone else, there are for more efficient threads for that to take place. If you want to lecture the difference between rape and stupid, we already know that... you're not telling anyone anything new.

...gutted like fish'...

You don't think that's a tad harsh for boorish, insensitive behavior on the part of these slobs. Look, I totally agree that what they were doing was hurtful and wrong, I just think that sometimes we are too quick to just say 'to Hell with them all!' before we consider any other possibility. Don't get me wrong, I never did, and never WOULD treat women this way, and yes, some of these guys may be totally irredeemable, but SOME of them may be able to understand that what they were doing was wrong...and CHANGE. I only was trying to say that sometimes it seems there are people here that tend to lean toward a 'one-strike-and-you're-out' policy...that's all.

...not trying to gloss over these guys stupid and uncaring behavior...just saying that, instead of saying that they will always be assholes, give them a chance to change, apologize for their actions, and who knows...you may find a different person emerging from all of this.

then to parade them in front of their "brothers" as their prize pigs while they all snicker and make filthy jokes at their expense, hopefully behind their backs, to totally lie to the women and then, god forbid, "####" them for a joke, should earn them a season in hell.

How could anyone be duplicitous, perverse enough to refer to their behavior as merely rude? It was filthy, and it was evil.

They will NEVER be valuable companions to anyone on the face of the earth, ever, in their lifetimes. It's not in their futures. They have ruled out respect for themselves, personally, by falling so short of the mark it takes to be human beings.

You can never live at someone else's expense at the spiritual level, and if you try, you will lose. You have written yourself off.

I wonder who picks the guy for that gig. If the frat boys had their way, they'd slide someone like "Bluto" from "Animal House" into the position. Or a drug dealer.
