KC loses hundreds more manufacturing jobs as Procter & Gamble announces plant closure

Source: KSHB

KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- All 280 employees at the Procter & Gamble plant in KCK will either have to transfer elsewhere or be out of a job come 2020, a spokesperson for the company announced Wednesday morning after an impromptu all-staff meeting.

On top of the 280 employees at the facility on a full-time basis, there are an additional 350 contract employees at this site, according to a spokesperson.

"We shared with employees today that we will transfer production of Our Dish Care business from our site in Kansas City, Kansas, to our new facility at Tabler Station, West Virginia," the statement said.

The KCK plant, built in 1905, produces Dawn, Gain, Ivory and Joy soaps and dish detergents.

I am so glad those permanent corporate tax cuts are proving to be what our economy needs and these companies are hiring instead of closing locations.

Only some of the jobs, probably management, will move. Very few.

Corporate doublespeak. Not much more.

And there is fight over a TransCanada/Mountaineer Gas Pipeline . The pipeline people say Proctor and Gamble needs the gas, but P&G have always denied this. This pipeline sends gas from Pa to Hancock Md and goes under the Potomac to the Berkeley Springs area. It then goes through rural farmland in Morgan County and then near homes and schools until it hits Martinsburg and then is supposed to go to Shepherdstown and Kearneysville and Charles Town. NOBODY wants this and it is being forced on us.They are taking property by eminent domain and people are pissed.Charles Town is built on top of a limestone cavern. Duh! There are caves everywhere. If this water gets contaminated, it goes straight to Dc. Karst topograghy and pipelines should not happen. We think since there is no public water or sewer in much of the area , it is just a way to get eventually to Dominion Cove in Lusby on the bay for export.

It is called the Eastern Panhandle comprising of Jefferson , Berkeley and Morgan. We are way more prosperous than the rest of the state because we had NO coal and our proximity to DC . We have trains to DC for commuters. The Rs also are going to allow logging in Cacapon State Park. If you live in DC , you may have played golf at Cacapon. Miners have moved here for work in the last decade as their mines played out, but it cost more to live here than the southern part of our state where the mines are/were located. Kansas has been ruined by poor governance and Justice is working on ruining WV.

unglued here. He is offering Kimberly Clark the same tax payer support cash that he gave to Foxcon to come to Wisconsin. So taxpayers are on the hook for millions and millions of dollars because Walker doesn’t understand Econ 101. He just a simpering pathetic fuck head like trump.

20. The Brownback tax cut was actually repealed last year...

The tax cut was always an idiotic idea, which is why Republicans championed it in the first place. No taxing business and flow-through K-1 income AT ALL was always destined to result in failure. After multiple years of huge deficits from significantly reduced tax revenue, the Kansas legislature finally came to their senses and repealed the tax cut. And....they made it retroactive for ALL of 2017, even though the law was passed in July 2017.

Going forward, individuals will have a 5.75% maximum tax rate on their KS taxable income. Still not all that high when compared to the "blue" states, like my own California, but at least it's not a zero.

Is it wrong that I was gleeful on the inside when I had to break the news to my wealthy client that his tax liability was going to go up several hundred thousand dollars due to this change? I had to massage his hurt feelings by reminding him of how much he saved from 2012-2016 due to this folly.

WHY couldn't they modernize the Kansas City plant.

Oh......while we're talking about Proctor & Gamble, how many remember when there was a biiiigggg wingnut flap about a 'satanic symbol' on P&G product packages??

Maybe they are in league with the devil, after all!!!!

I'm sure it's been up dated over the years, but after a while it's just easier and cheaper to build from scratch.
