Sen. Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii) on Friday mocked President Trump's claims that the investigation into Moscow's meddling in the 2016 election is "hoax" following the indictments of 13 Russian nationals and three Russian organizations.

Schatz is a frequent Trump critic, apologizing last month to immigrant communities for the president's dismissal of Haiti, El Salvador and African nations as "shithole countries."

The charges announced Friday were the first brought by special counsel Robert Mueller directly related to alleged meddling in the election.

Former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort and his associate Rick Gates were indicted in October on charge, including money laundering, tax evasion and failing to register as foreign agents.
