Mueller just made a move indicating Rick Gates has something of significant value to offer him

Mueller's decision to drop the charges indicates Gates most likely has something of significant value to offer him.
A federal court in Alexandria, Virginia, on Tuesday granted a motion by the special counsel Robert Mueller's office to dismiss several charges brought against Rick Gates, the former deputy chairman of Donald Trump's presidential campaign.
The charges were brought on Thursday in a 32-count superseding indictment that accused Gates and Paul Manafort, the former Trump campaign chairman, of financial crimes related to tax and bank fraud. Gates was charged with 24 counts related to tax fraud, bank fraud, bank-fraud conspiracy, and failure to file reports of foreign bank and financial accounts.
Gates pleaded guilty on Friday to one count of conspiracy against the US and one count of making a false statement to federal investigators.

(23,946 posts)Was on CIA radar for years as he pranced around the globe meeting with Russians and all manner of people, including for his busted with Manafucked money laundering?
Why would he, his lawyers must be aghast, on Fox News, Hannity the Russian media mole no less, to hold an interview where he pleads his innocence...having just pled guilty to conspiracy?
Is Mueller/Page going to flush out Fox also?
On the other hand there is this comment thread from another left site:
Malcolm Nance's theory on why Carter Page's parade of incriminating TV appearances haven't had him arrested yet is because he's a double agent for the US and doesn't fear being arrested by us...

This could be plausible because even Russian Intel wouldn't believe we sent Gilligan to entrap the entire operation.

(14,964 posts)(At least once) I'm pretty sure I read a few times, he had no representation. If he did, they likely had simultaneous heart attacks watching those interviews. I find Carter Page quite fascinating.

(45,993 posts)There are a lot of moving parts here, but what needs to be taken into account is that the original indictment against Gates and Manafort was filed in October in the District Court for the District of Columbia. The motion to dismiss filed today relates to an indictment filed in the Eastern District of Virginia.
It appears that Mueller and his team ran into an issue as to whether the charges originally brought in DC were properly brought there or should have been brought in Virginia. The indictments in the two courts overlapped substantively. Rather than have indictments in two separate courts, Mueller sought to have Gates and Manafort waive any objections to certain charges being brought in DC, which allowed Mueller to drop those charges in Virginia. I don't pretend to understand all the details, but the filings with the DC court made last week expressly alluded to an agreement to dismiss the charges in the Eastern District. An explanation of some of this, albeit not completely clear, can be found here:

(12,767 posts)I can only guess what that would have to be in order to get the charges dropped, it must be big and go very high up the food chain.

(868 posts)The charges were dropped without prejudice. That means they can be refiled.
