Trump Meets Netanyahu: 'If Palestinians Don't Return to Table, There Won't Be Peace'

Trump tells reporters at White House: 'I may come to Jerusalem for embassy dedication in May' ■ Netanyahu compares Trump to Cyrus, Balfour, Truman

Noa Landau (Washington) Mar 05, 2018 8:12 PM

WASHINGTON - Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday for their fifth meeting in the last year. During their joint remarks, Trump warned that there won't be peace if the Palestinians refuse to return to the negotiating table.

The meeting takes place as Israel is rocked by the latest dramatic development in the Netanyahu corruption scandals: A third cofidant turned state's evidence.

Trump said that "no one could get past Jerusalem, we've taken it off the table," adding that he believes the Palestinians intend to return to the negotiating table, "and if they don't, there will be no peace."

Netanyahu compared Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital to Cyrus the Great ending the Babylonian exile, the Balfour Declaration and Harry Truman's recognition of the State of Israel in 1948. He added that "the biggest challenge in the Middle East is Iran. It must be stopped."

that she found out - along with the entire world - that he banged a porn star without a condom a month after she gave birth to Barron. Can't even imagine what that must be like.

Three things have to happen for there to be peace. Palestinians have to have East Jerusalem as their capitol, Arab countries have to recognize Israel's right to exist and all Jewish people in settlements on Palestinian land have to leave.

To resolve the settlement issue. The reality is that housing is very expensive in Israel, which is what has been driving the settlement growth. The religious settlers are actually a small part of the Israeli population in the WB, which includes Israeli Arabs, Druze etc.

I'm curious about your statement, do you think Jews should be able to live in the future state of Palestine or is that a bridge too far?

As a progressive, are you OK with a Muslim only country?

There is no such thing as "Palestinian land".

Read UN security council resolutions 242 and 338. Nothing there about Palestinians.

If they want a country they need to negotiate. Simple as that.

it is OK for people to bulldoze people's property and livelihood (Olive Groves) in the dead of night and move a trailer there declaring the land theirs?

What do you propose they do with the people already living there? Or do they have no right at all to live because those settlers wanted some free land and it is easy to steal it from people who have little recourse?

as long as they are buying or renting and not saying this is now part of Israel. It won't happen as long as Muslims are not treated as equals in Israel. But as long as as all religions and colors are not treated equally in the US it is a long shot. By that, I don't mean that Arabs are waiting to see that Muslims are treated equally in US, but since we have the problems we have, I can't have much hope for the Middle East.
