Dem holds slim lead in Pa. special election: poll
Source: The Hill
Democrat Conor Lamb holds a slim lead in a new poll ahead of next week's high-profile special House election in Pennsylvania, a sign that Democrats could pull off an upset in the deep-red district.
A new poll from Emerson College, released Monday, shows Lamb with 48 percent of the vote, compared to GOP state Rep. Rick Saccone's 45 percent. Only 7 percent of voters are undecided ahead of next Tuesday's election.
The polling shows Lamb voters as more enthusiastic and engaged than Saccone voters. The Democrat also has a stronger net-favorability rating than Saccone.
Both sides are hoping that a victory could help set the narrative ahead of the midterms, since the race is one of the last competitive special elections before November.

(495 posts)We need to fight for EVERY SINGLE vote in every district.
I really hope 2016 brought home the reality that THERE ARE NO SAFE RACES. No more "Thank you for your concern" dismissals. No more premature celebrations of "obvious" victories.
We need to get people to the polls, even where we are supposed to win by 20 point margins.

Pennsylvania Repubs really need Trump to shut up for the next week, but the media's a juggernaut most days anyway.

(128,933 posts)But it's not a "deep-red" district. Registration-wise, Democrats are in the majority. They vote for Democrats at the local/county levels but unfortunately vote (R) for national elections.

(611 posts)The registration edge does not mean much. The Orange Menace won by 19 points, Romney did almost that well. I live a few miles outside the 18th in the adjoining district. You have to be what I call a gun rack Democrat to do well here. By that I mean OK with the use of guns for hunting and home defense, and against abortion (I have not heard Lamb address abortion) Lamb also has a better physical appearance than Saccone, who is pasty, dough faced, and apparently has an absurd frontal clip in toupee. Saccone also comes across kind of smarmy, and has hitched his wagon to being like Trump, while others are quietly unhitching before the horse pulls them all over a cliff. If the Repukes lose this custom made district, after outspending the Democrats multiple times over, some donors may hold money back in the mid-terms, figuring it is a waste. One can but hope.
Lamb looks youthful and fit. I think that appearance counts for a few points, whether we like that or not.

(128,933 posts)That area used to include Murtha's old 12th Congressional district and he was in there for forever and was a (D). He was even replaced by Critz (D) in a special election after Murtha passed away.... But then they redrew it and manufactured the 18th Congressional and a re-done 12th, and that was the end of that.
