Education Secretary Betsy DeVos made a contentious visit to the site of last months Florida school shooting Wednesday, in which she was criticized by survivors and abruptly walked out of her own press conference.
...................................
"Secretary Betsy DeVos spoke to me and only a handful of students. She did not properly answer my only question," Kyra Parrow tweeted. "She did not sit down with any students and asked what we wanted. Douglas has 3,000 students. None of them were invited."
Members of the media received similar treatment from DeVos during a press conference later in the morning that lasted only 10 minutes or so. When pressed by reporters on the issue of arming school staff, with questions surrounding training standards and student opposition, DeVos suddenly walked away from her podium.

Do something unexpected: answer our questions. You came to our school just for publicity and avoided our questions for the 90 minutes you were actually here. How about you actually do your job? #neveragain #DoYourJob

They are totally devoid of those human feelings - thus their inability to express them. The concept of compassion is so foreign to them they could not possibly pull it off genuinely in public.

She should not be in her position in the first place...like the rest of the Cabinet. Going to FL and acting this way is typical and expected behavior. No surprises here! #ENOUGH

March For Our Lives March 24 in DC and sister cities.
School safety is not a political issue. There cannot be two sides to doing everything in our power to ensure the lives and futures of children who are at risk of dying when they should be learning, playing, and growing. The mission and focus of March For Our Lives is to demand that a comprehensive and effective bill be immediately brought before Congress to address these gun issues.
Participants are also coming together to register voters at various marches, to ensure that outrage today will translate to high turnout during Novembers midterm elections.

(2,189 posts)combat vet and current high school history teacher will never carry a gun into my highschool or any other school. Stupid idea to say the least....My high school has 1600 kids, half the size of Marjory Stoneman Douglas HS and the thought of trying to engage a shooter and not hit a kid or faculty member with the panic and stampede to get out of the school or away from a gunman as classrooms lock down is terrifying. Then there is the high possibility of being shot by law enforcement, hitting a student or faculty member instead of the gunman, ricochets or being sued by family of a shot victim etc....HELL NO ON GUNS IN SCHOOLS save the school SRO.
