Police officer's suit against woman whose son was killed in collision 'offensive': Lawyer

Source: ABC news

A New Mexico police officer with a history of being reprimanded for on-duty crashes filed a lawsuit against a woman whose 6-year-old son was killed when the officer slammed into their vehicle while speeding to a crime in progress.

Jonathan McDonnell of the Albuquerque Police Department filed the civil suit against Antoinette Suina, charging she "failed to yield to an emergency vehicle" when she turned in front of his speeding patrol car in 2017.

I like how cops get civil immunity, but they can apparently directly sue the public?

Hope his suit is tossed.

the Police Dept. would be smarter if they distanced themselves from the jerk. I have a hard time thinking that he could find a jury willing to side with the jerk over a woman who lost her 6 year old son because of the jerk. If this makes it to court I wish that the jury could recommend some type of monetary penalty against the jerk for filing a frivolous lawsuit.

to her suit for damages. Had he not countersued, he'd very likely be prevented from later bringing such a suit, should evidence on her suit show that she was in fact the cause of the accident.

I'm not saying she was; but not everything should be cause for indignation. Read, learn, empathize, or become just like THEM.
