Putin says Jews with Russian citizenship could be behind U.S. election meddling
Source: USA Today
MOSCOW Vladimir Putin says he doesnt care about alleged Russian interference in the U.S. presidential election because the actions werent connected to his government.
In an interview with NBC, the Russian president was asked if he condoned the interference by 13 Russian nationals and three Russian companies detailed in a US indictment.
I do not care at all, because they do not represent the government, he said, according to the interview transcript posted Saturday by the Kremlin.
Maybe they are not even Russians but Ukrainians, Tatars or Jews but with Russian citizenship, which should also be checked; maybe they have dual citizenship of a green card; maybe the US paid them for this. How can you know that? I do not know either, he said.

It's funny we both are Jewish have the same first name were born the same year and we both drive a prius. I was born here tho.
But, seriously it's all getting way too scary.

More lame-ass Putin bullshit.

(4,066 posts)First, I think that USA today focused on the one word in the sentence that would get the most negative reaction from its readers. The quote was:
Maybe they are not even Russians, but Ukrainians, Tatars or Jews, but with Russian citizenship, which should also be checked, he said.
If you are a Ukranian or a Tatar you're probably pretty offended too. But USA Today decided to do what gets the most clicks and lead with the third word in the series. No, I'm defending Putin and I'm not saying that it makes it any better that Jews was the third word. I'm just being realistic here. It's this kind of "lead with the most sensational word" practice that gets organizations called fake news.
Second. Putin's statements about not knowing anything are bullshit. To expect us to believe the dictator of Russia, a former KGB agent, would not have the people investigated and not find out what is really going on in this whole Trump-Russa thing is simply not credible in the least. I have no doubt he's lying. He knows all about it because I believe he ordered and supported it.
Behind the Aegis
(53,956 posts)Jews, for a long time, have been accused of "running" countries and being a "secret cabal". These charges are centuries old. This is not something often used against Ukrainians or Tatars. So, for USA Today to use just one group, the Jews, in their headline makes sense, even if other groups were also mentioned. Also, it is important to look at Putin's verbiage because it basically says Russian Jews aren't real Russians.
Maybe they are not even Russians, but Ukrainians, Tatars or Jews, but with Russian citizenship, which should also be checked, he said.
While I am sure the other two groups would be pissed, I doubt there are many in the US, but there are many Jews in the US, though I doubt many are also Russian citizens too. This is an anti-Semitic attack. Plain and Simple.
Also, did you leave out a word?
No, I'm defending Putin and I'm not saying that it makes it any better that Jews was the third word.
If you are "being realistic", then it is important to know history, and in this case, the history of anti-Semitism!

Call me cynical, but it came across as her showing that her access to a head of state makes her valuable to NBC. In the meantime it just cost her giving Putin more access to providing disinformation to Americans.
