Lawyers associated with President Donald Trump are considering legal action to stop 60 Minutes from airing an interview with Stephanie Clifford, the adult film performer and director who goes by Stormy Daniels, BuzzFeed News has learned.
We understand from well placed sources they are preparing to file for a legal injunction to prevent it from airing, a person informed of the preparations told BuzzFeed News on Saturday evening. It was not immediately clear what legal argument the lawyers would be making to support the considered litigation, and Trump and his legal team often have threatened litigation without following through on those threats in the past.
Michael Cohen, Trump's personal attorney who previously was a longtime lawyer for the Trump Organization, directed questions about the possibility of litigation to Larry Rosen, who Cohen told BuzzFeed News is my attorney handling this matter. Rosen a partner in the firm LaRocca, Hornick, Rosen, Greenberg & Blaha acknowledged his role in the matter generally but did not comment directly on the possibility of seeking an injunction.
The action would be the latest in a flurry of developments in a case that began just before the 2016 election when Cohen paid Clifford $130,000 in return for her silence about a sexual relationship she allegedly had with Trump in 2006. At the time, Trump was under intense pressure over comments hed made about his treatment of women in the run-up to the vote.

By the way, paying off clients potential plaintiffs using your own funds to stop any lawsuit is totally a breach of legal ethical code. I give you 6 months before disbarment.

(3,515 posts)Cohen just represents Trump out of the goodness of Cohen's heart. What a kind man!
Unbelievably dedicated to his clients. Goes way above and beyond.
"Unbelievable" is the key word when it comes to Cohen.
One of a lawyer's most important ethical rules is to tell the truth to the court.
I wonder whether Cohen has represented to the court that he paid Stormy out of his own money. Because if he did, he had better be ready to prove it.

Congressional investigation if a black man was in the White House.
Each part of the money trail is only suspicious, but the entire road is a quagmire of guilt.

If the media could publish the Pentagon Papers, then 60 minutes can run with an interview with the president's porn star.

(4,066 posts)With the Pentagon Papers they probably had some semblance of a case for national security. This is all purely a civil matter. I can't even imagine what argument they could make to prevent this.

These attorneys have a fool for a client and they will be soiled by him just as everyone else in his orbit gets stained.
The lawyers must get a huge advance to protect against Trump's history of non-payment.

(4,016 posts)the interview from airing as planned. But, it will been seen later as no judge, court, etc, can or would block the interview for ever airing as noted above by some others. Regardless of their claims, whatever they may be, the 1st Admendment is supreme here.

(999 posts)Michael Cohen is great at intimidating contractors and individuals who cannot afford good representation. However he Is now playing in the majors and his lack of talent is beginning to show. Trump Enterprises is nothing but a crime organization. Trump clearly thinks he Is a Mafia Don and he has gotten away with everything his whole adult life. I will relish the day he is taken down.

(33,643 posts)I would be totally unsurprised if the interview isn't her fawning the whole time over what a gentleman he was, just 'we had a nice but too-brief relationship ... and it was wrong because he was married but it was really very tame and he treated me very well and I have no desire to talk about any intimate details, of which there are very few anyway' ...
And all he's doing right now with these threats of lawsuits against CBS or whatever ... is promoting an interview he WANTS the world to see.
Don't underestimate the asshole, he's totally sneaky in the exact sort of way I described.

(33,643 posts)really 'come at her with' in terms of like 'calling bullshit?' ... what does he reasonably 'know' that's especially damaging to Trump other than what we already all suppose is true, which is that Trump via Cohen paid her off to keep quiet?
I mean we all know that much now so there's not much more 'point' to made on that subject, so ... what else are you expecting from AC?
You think he'd be all 'so come on, tell us about the Presidents weird kinks, we all KNOW he has 'em right? What kinda weird shit did he make you do? Oh, yeah and ... also, c'mon ... the people want to know ... small penis, right, Ms. Clifford? Right?'
I mean he's NOT gonna be doing that, as he's too classy of a cat ... so UNLESS she's decided she want to make Trump look bad (which we don't know for sure, at all) ... IN THIS INTERVIEW ... and don't forget she's trying to cash in so a book is almost a certainty ... ergo it's to her advantage to maintain mystery with subtle hints ... and then go 'and you can read all about the details in the upcoming page-turner from Stormy Daniels, 'My Affair With the President', coming soon from Doubleday Books!'
Don't get your hopes up is all I'm saying ...

(13,340 posts)They can enforce the provisions of their porn cover-up contract against Daniels, but the First Amendment is clear that the court cannot prevent 60 minutes from airing the segment.

(51,787 posts)The publicity from the lawsuit filing will jack up the show's ratings, then 60 Minutes can file a Demurrer which will surely be sustained, dismissing the lawsuit. Then 60 Minutes can file its own suit against Trump for maliciius prosecution, asking for their attorney's fees, which they will win, but not before deposing Trump and creating another ratings blockbuster 60 Minutes show with snippets from the depo. The depo will give them the opportunity to ask Trump all about Stormy...and Russia, and pee pee tapes, and why he likes being spanked with a Forbes magazine, and the list goes on and on.
Come on, Donnie. Go for it. File it!
