Trump 'intends to' meet with special counsel under oath: White House spokesman

Source: ABC News

The White House principal deputy press secretary said Sunday he believes that President Donald Trump still “intends to” meet with special counsel Robert Mueller under oath.

Trump spokesperson Raj Shah responded to a question by ABC News Chief White House Correspondent Jonathan Karl, who said Trump has told him twice that he plans to meet with the special counsel overseeing the Russia investigation and will answer questions under oath.

Karl asked Shah on "This Week" Sunday if "the president plans to keep his word."

Shah responded, "I'm sure he intends to," adding that the president's "attorneys are communicating with the special counsel on the specifics regarding that."

Depositions are supposed to be under oath, too, and he is known to have lied many times during depositions. This is why his lawyers are trying to keep him as far away from Mueller as possible: He lies all the time, even about things that aren't especially important. Of course, lying during a deposition, while technically perjury, is rarely prosecuted (except for Bill Clinton, of course). But lying to the FBI .... even if it's not under oath, it's still a crime. And Trump just can't help lying.

...This would be way different from a grand jury appearance. Usually Trump assumes he's the smartest guy in the room, so he'll want to meet with Mueller. But the lawyers will keep him on a choke collar, I'm sure.
