Kim Jong Un Wants a Peace Treaty From Trump, Report Says

Source: Bloomberg News (March 11, 2018)

Kim Jong Un wants to sign a peace treaty after meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, South Korean media reported, reviving a long-held goal of the North Korean regime.

Kim is likely to raise the possibility of a peace treaty, along with establishing diplomatic relations and nuclear disarmament, during a meeting with the U.S. leader, the Dong-A Ilbo newspaper said Monday, citing an unidentified senior official in South Korea’s presidential office. Trump last week agreed to meet Kim, although key details of the summit have yet to be decided.

Koh Yu-hwan, who teaches North Korean studies at Dongguk University in Seoul, said the regime has long sought a peace treaty to end the more than 60-year-old ceasefire between the two sides and help guarantee its safety.

“There were agreements between the U.S. and North Korea to open up discussion on a peace treaty, but they never materialized,” Koh said, saying the conditions were key. “The U.S. wants a peace treaty at the end of the denuclearization process, while for the North, it’s the precondition for its denuclearization.”

And the agreement was successfully continued by SoS Madeline Albright - until Bush* insulted North Korea with his Axis of Evil in 2002. But then Jimmy Carter was both a nuclear engineer and an experienced international diplomat and Madeline Albright was an experienced and competent Secretary of State. Who is Trump going to take advice from? His real estate developer son-in-law??

She probably sees lots of low-wage workers in N. Korea, who could work on her ripped off "designs". I think the two showmen, tRump and Un should have a "weigh-in" to start the meeting, then have a sumo wrestle for entertainment. Which one would look the most gross in an adult diaper? I vote for tRump.

He agreed to not work on one kind of weapon.

So he had his government work on the other kind of nuclear weapons.

The options were two: Call them out on it and sanction them or let them do the Pakistan thing and say, "Surprise!" With the difference being that the Pakistani nuclear project apparently really did catch everybody by surprise, not this fake surprise when we sit there with fingers in our ears and hands over our eyes pretending something isn't happening. In the case of NK, we knew what they were doing.

T'would be interesting to see if SK would go for a peace treaty, if Trump were smart enough to insist that SK be included. It's sort of like a treaty between Taiwan and PRC would be--the official rhetoric for so long has been to deny separateness that the idea of a peace treaty is anathema. Without SK and assurances that we actually meant and were willing to uphold, it would be a repeat of Vietnam.

Even the Great Obama couldn't accomplish this. On the other hand, he is the type who will try and slap the pen and paper out of Kim's hand and tell him lets get it on right now.. If we are lucky the North Koreans will take him prisoner and hold him for ransom...which no one will pay.

If the treaty and pen are in front of him, and Un tosses in a little flattery, Trump would sign anything.

Making this more difficult to happen. He does that a lot. Then my biggest fear if they meet is they'll get into a dispute over whose hair is the most beautiful, or something stupid like that, then return ready to start a war. They'll each try to claim they saved the world from a world war. Probably all done by Putin to showcase trump with, and to distract more with. Neither one of these guys are credible.

kim won't get rid of his nuke or the ability to make them but yet wants a peace treaty.

trump wants this peace treaty so desperately he's will to do just about anything to get it.

once upon a time, during negotiations with NK, the idea would be; they show progress on human rights, etc and we would ease some sanctions, open food aid, etc.

NOW, since kim side lined the west with their negotiations with the south by cutting out trump, they can ask for anything they want and know exactly how to play him.

as I have written before, the orange asshole is going into these negotiations (if they actually happen) from a much weakened position of his own making.

kim is asking for everything upfront with any real mention of a concrete suggestion. if you actually read what kim is proposing, nothing in it spells out exaclty what he will do to have that peace treaty.

you have to understand something about all of this, kim as already gotten what he wants; legitimacy at the world table. as soon as the orange asshole steps off AF1 onto NK soil, he already lost.

Everything from that point on is nothing more that bullshit and bluster.

He wants a PARADE with tanks, airplanes and those mega crowds of soldiers and military units passing before him. I can see him grinning from ear to ear standing beside Kim Jong Un.
