The White House on Monday defended President Trumps gun proposals as it faced questions about whether he had chickened out in the face of pressure from the National Rifle Association (NRA).
White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Trump hasnt backed away from his support of expanding background checks or raising the age limit on gun purchases, although neither were addressed in a plan the administration rolled out Sunday night.

He hasn't backed away from these things at all, Sanders said at a press briefing where she faced numerous questions on the issue, including from a Washington Post reporter who asked why Trump backed away from some of the ideas he brought into the discussion and chickened out.

They're still outlined in the plan, Sanders said. But he can't make them happen with a broad stroke of the pen," she said. "You have to have some congressional component to do some of these things and without that support, it's not as possible."

(5,914 posts)"Chickening out" applies flinching, like when someone challenges you to jump a cliff into unknown waters, and you won't do it. It's okay to chicken out.
Being a "coward" means you have a responsibility to do things and you not do them, because you are continually afraid. That is not okay. That is a defect of character.

(19,204 posts)he just walked right around them. I was going to say "ran around them", but Trump hasn't run since he was 16 years old. Trump is a coward. He always has been, and he always will be. He doesn't bite the hand that feeds him, and it takes A LOT of very wealthy hands to feed him.
