Rand Paul to oppose Pompeo, Haspel

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) said on Wednesday he would oppose President Trump's nominations of CIA Director Mike Pompeo to be secretary of State and CIA Deputy Director Gina Haspel to lead the spy agency.
Paul said that he will oppose the nominations and "do everything I can to block" them.
"My announcement today is that I will oppose both Pompeo's nomination and Haspel's nomination," Paul said.
Paul was the only Republican to vote against Pompeo for CIA director. And his decision on Wednesday complicates, but doesn't unilaterally sink, Pompeo's path to leading the State Department. Republicans have an 11-10 advantage on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, making Paul a key vote.

(11,518 posts)I admit to not having a lot of facts on Pompeo, but given the history of Haspel and her involvement in waterboarding and the destruction of evidence related to waterboarding there's no way in hell she should be confirmed.

(1,333 posts)All you have to do is praise anyone with a D and condemn anyone with an R behind their name, no matter what they do. They could hand you the cure to your cancer and you reject it because evil Rs are always 100% of the time up to no good
I am sure this must be the first time you have heard this but even a stopped clock is right 2 times a day trice during day light saving time. Yes, Rand Paul is against torture and the surveillance state, John "warmonger" McCain is also staunchly against torture and in the case of McCain I think he is sincere about it.
So now you know, some republicans have hold political positions that are good and moral.
For anyone with an open mind, Rand did vote against Pompeo's confirmation as CIA head and he was the only republican not to vote with the other republicans unlike 14 of the democrats.

I'd recommend calling your senators too.
