Adam Schiff: ‘Had a Russian nerve agent been used on someone in our country, could we count on on our President?’

House Intelligence Committee ranking member Adam Schiff (D-CA) on Thursday wondered whether President Donald Trump would speak out against Russia if it used chemical warfare to attack someone in the U.S.

In a message posted to Twitter, Schiff said that he was unsure how Trump would handle a poisoning like the one in London, where Vladimir Putin has been accused of using a banned nerve agent to attack a former spy who turned against Russia.

During remarks earlier in the week, Trump had promised to condemn Russia or “whoever it is” if the U.S. agrees with the British government’s assessment of the attack. Other members of Trump’s administration — like UN Ambassador Nikki Haley — have offered a more full-throated condemnation of Russia.
