President Trump said on Thursday that it "certainly looks" as if Moscow is behind the poisoning of an ex-Russian spy and his daughter in the United Kingdom.
"I spoke with the prime minister and we are in deep discussions a very sad situation. It certainly looks like the Russians were behind it," Trump told reporters, referring to British Prime Minister Theresa. "Something that should never, ever happen, and we're taking it very seriously."
The president's comments with Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar came after the U.S. and three other countries the U.K., Germany and France issued a joint statement accusing Russia of using a military-grade nerve agent to carry out the attack.
Sergei Skripal and his daughter, Yulia, remain in the hospital in critical condition.

(1,262 posts)Trump didn't specify that it was Putin or his government that was responsible for the attack.
Trump's use of "Russians" can be interpreted as an accusation against a rogue element in Russia, not necessarily tied to Putin.

Then again, we take the intelligence reports claiming something "with high confidence" as "100% certain that it happened."
Some people can't handle uncertainty. "I'm 98% sure" gets taken as "there's no doubt at all, it's 100% certain that this happened" or as "What, there's a good-sized chance you're wrong? So why even mention it since you have absolutely no idea?"

(9,866 posts)As the rumor goes, the plan is for Trump to attack Russia.
Then fire Sessions.
Appoint Pruitt, who will not need confirmation to replace Sessions.
Pruitt will fire Mueller.
And when we are in an uproar over thatRump will say "But what do you mean? I was tough on Russia."
