Feinstein calls Trump erratic and unfit. But she'll try to work with him
Source: San Francisco Chronicle
President Trump is erratic, lacks stability and hasnt shown himself fit to hold office, Sen. Dianne Feinstein said Tuesday, but she hasnt given up the notion of working with him.
I do not believe he is a good president. I do not believe he is fit to be president. I do not believe that we have the stability in the executive office that we need to have, Feinstein, D-Calif., said during an interview with The Chronicles editorial board.
I think theres an erratic behavior there that is deeply concerning, Feinstein said.
But Feinstein, who is trying to win support for a new assault weapons ban a bill for which she has no Republican co-sponsors noted that she would need Trumps signature on any measure she can get through Congress.

(68,586 posts)lies and who failed to show up at the polls in 2016...giving the GOP all three branches of government. It is the thinking that some Democrats aren't good enough and the parties are the same which has caused this situation. And I sincerely hope most have learned a lesson and won't allow the GOP to win again...because we really are looking at the destruction of the progressive movement if that happens and of our republic.

None of the Democrats including Feinstein can get anything done unless they interact with Republicans.

(68,586 posts)They fervently believe that very liberal candidates can get elected in states like Alabama...and the 'message' is magical and the only problem is that we are not all on board with the 'message'. It is not that much different from the 70's and 80's where progressives got trounced in multiple presidential elections. It took Bill Clinton to figure out a new strategy and stop the GOP assault on the courts by winning in 1992...an election deemed so hopeless by Democrats that the most promising candidates didn't bother to run.

(8,700 posts)He is incompetent and unfit for office BUT Ill work with him is the most pretzel logic statement ever.
Saying you agree or willing to work with him is a step to normalization.
He said he likes to grab women by the pussy!
He said hit was ok to call his own daughter a piece of ass!
He is driving the US economy into the sewer.
He is a racist.
He is a misogynist.
Democrats should not be working with him on anything as he has NEVER been an honest broker, even with his own party.
We should fight everything he does to the bitter end.
Its not about the reality of the job or office. In what reality do you think trump would sign an assault weapons ban? He has been jerking Democrats around like fools on gun control and DACA but we keep coming to him like an abused spouse thinking we can make it work and he keeps hitting us. STOP!

They had no choice, needed Democratic votes. Chuck Schumer is the true negotiator, not Trump.

(8,700 posts)Since republicans control both the house and senate, unless its legislation they agree on, it will never be voted on. Things like a clean DACA bill or a clean assault weapon ban will never see the light of day.
Democrats dont have to obstruct anything, we can put forth all the bills we want because not a single one will see the light of day until January of 2019.
That fucking Wall is a money pit and completely useless but until trump goes away anything we do will have that nonsense attached to to it. We should not be conceding ANY ground on that useless piece of shit wall or vote for ANY bill that includes it.
Sorry, its counterintuitive to say he is
unfit for office and then imply you will work with him on anything.

(8,700 posts)Those concessions were not because republicans became altruistic and bipartisan all of a sudden. There was a reason. Those items were included to counter the freedom caucus and other republicans from sabotaging the bill. In other words this was must pass legislation and republicans could not afford to be the reason it didnt pass so they needed Democratic votes. Those votes came at a price.
Plus it wasnt all rainbows and puppies. For all the good in there we spent $700 billion dollars on defense. We are allowing the CDC to study gun violence now but we didnt allocate any funding to do it.
Clear backpacks and better door locks would not have stopped a single school shooting ever.
The omnibus spending bill has some wins in it but lets not kid ourselves and think its because of actual bipartisan agreement or Democrats changing republican minds. It boiled down to republican infighting and we were able to, a certain degree, win some minor concessions on things that would have been there from the beginning on any Democratic spending bill.

(17,986 posts)McConnell did not have the votes without Democrats. That is why Schumer got much of what he wanted.
I never mentioned altruistic or bi partisan. He had to have Democratic votes.

(13,305 posts)I mean that's what I read throughout the past couple days when Bernie took the position that Amazon being a monolithic, anti-labor, greedy corporation might possibly not be the best thing in the world, simply because that happened to mildly, slightly, and vaguely overlap with something Trump said.
Looking forward to all of those same folks being outraged at this.
