Ryan: Comey a man of integrity 'as far as I know'

Source: The Hill

BY JULIA MANCHESTER - 04/15/18 09:00 AM EDT

Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) said in an interview on Sunday that former FBI Director James Comey is a man of integrity as far as he knows.

"As far as I know. I don't know him very well. ... Two or three briefings is about what I had with James Comey," Ryan, who announced his retirement last week, told NBC's Chuck Todd on "Meet the Press."

"Would you take him at his word? Would you trust his judgment?" Todd pressed. "Look. I'm not going to try and help sell some books here," Ryan responded, maintaining during the exchange that he did not know the former FBI director well.

Ryan's comments come in the wake of the Comey's book tour detailing his tenure in the Trump administration.

Ryan pushes back on ‘triumph of Trumpism over Ryanism’

BY KYLE BALLUCK - 04/15/18 09:00 AM EDT

Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), who announced his retirement last week, in an interview on Sunday pushed back on the notion that historians will write about the “triumph of Trumpism over Ryanism.”

“No, I just don't see it like that,” Ryan said on NBC’s “Meet the Press” while pointing to his accomplishments.

“One of the first things I fought for when I first got here was tax reform. That hadn't been done since 1986, the year I got my driver's license. That is now done,” Ryan told host Chuck Todd.
“Since I've been become Speaker, I've spent a great deal of time with our intelligence community, our military. And I got, I became greatly concerned about the state of our military. And so I really focused on a rebuild of our military. That is now done and underway. I'm very, very pleased with that,” he said.

“And now enterprise zones are now law of the land. So there are so many things that I've gone through,” he added.

Ryan: Trump ‘disappointed’ by Speaker's decision to retire

BY KYLE BALLUCK - 04/15/18 09:00 AM EDT

Speaker Paul Ryan said in an interview broadcast Sunday that President Trump was disappointed to learn that the Wisconsin Republican had decided not to run for reelection.

“When you called President Trump, what'd he say?” NBC’s Chuck Todd asked Ryan on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

“He was disappointed. But he understood. He understood,” Ryan replied.

When Todd asked if Trump tried to talk Ryan out of retiring, Ryan repeated that the president was “disappointed.”

“We have a good relationship. We've gotten a lot done together,” Ryan said.

I loathe both of them - Comey for putting his ego first and being partisan (and bypassing his then superior Loretta Lynch), and in so doing got the worst ever man elected POTUS; Ryan for selling out our country to the idiot.

Both are holier than thou, pompous asses who need to be held accountable for their roles in enabling the idiot.

He wasn't launching an attack here.

Besides, there are so many other things to criticize Ryan for. And in any event, I also have some serious concerns--to put it mildly--about James Comey.
