Anti-Semitic conspiracy theories roil DC city government

WASHINGTON (AP) — A spiraling controversy over anti-Semitic comments and conspiracy theories has roiled the city government, seemingly getting worse with every public attempt to ease the tensions.

The issue nearly derailed a Washington City Council meeting Tuesday morning and resulted in the resignation of a city official who organized a disastrous “unity rally” that featured a speaker who called all Jews “termites.”

At the heart of the debacle is City Councilman Trayon White, who ignited a firestorm on March 16 by posting a short video on his Facebook page claiming that an unexpected snowfall was because of “the Rothschilds controlling the climate to create natural disasters.”

Fellow council members and Jewish community leaders accused White of spreading an anti-Semitic conspiracy theory about Jewish control of world events. The Rothschilds, a prominent Jewish family whose banking dynasty dates back to the 18th century, are a frequent target of global conspiracy theories.

don't know what I was trying to connect to the GOP. They are my go-to for depraved evil. every cultural reason for extreme division in american society, racially, gender-wise, sexual orientation wise, culturally are in play for one reason this time, trump and the entire GOP. Trayon is relating one of many 'conspiracies' theories out there in relation to the Jewish people and culture. Clueless? Maybe. Fool? Don't know.

I do know that at this time we have many larger problems than the Rothschilds in American development.

Yup, sounds about right. Seems when it is Jews, then it is OK. Want to throw them under the bus? Call them "upset white people" and ignore the fact Jews are an actual minority. Want to distract? Find an article where a Jew has acted badly (doesn't matter if they are "on the right", because, y'know, we are all the same). Anti-Semitism has a wide audience, and if we, on the left, are really committed to diversity and combatting bigotry, then the Jews have to be included in that fight and bigotry against us can't just be "dismissed" or ignored out right!
