Wife: Cosby convicted by 'mob justice, not real justice'
Source: AP
PHILADELPHIA (AP) Bill Cosbys wife is calling for a criminal investigation into the prosecutor behind his sexual assault conviction, saying the case was mob justice, not real justice and a tragedy that must be undone.
Camille Cosby commented on the case for the first time on Thursday in a statement issued through a spokesman a week after her husband of 54 years was convicted of aggravated indecent assault.
Camille Cosby called her husbands chief accuser Andrea Constand a liar and compared the dozens of other women whove accused her husband to lynch mobs and his treatment to that of Emmett Till, a 14-year-old black boy lynched in 1955 over false allegations he flirted with a white woman.
Prosecutors and Constands lawyers did not immediately respond to messages.

What would be more apropos would be to do a little research before calling someone out. All that took me less than five minutes.

Sorry, I only did 3 minutes of research. You did 5 minutes and it is good because it sheds more light on the background of the modern usage as well. I had not made the connection with "soporific" which I should have because I know that word.

(6,241 posts)Its a standard attack to accuse the accusers. People were accusing Anita Hill of a variety of things during the Clarance Thomas confirmation hearings. Its been going on for centuries. Trumps brand of shadiness is nothing special or new.

For the life of me, I just don't get that - there's no apparent motive. Bill was a star and likely could have hooked up with any number of willing women - he was a handsome guy.
He was articulate. He had some education. He had money. Why in the hell did he feel he had to drug women, then? That's the piece of this whole ugly thing that I've never understood.
But it wasn't a mob. He had due process.

Emmet Till was subjected to a white mob's justice for allegedly whistling at one of "their" women. I don't think it's an accident that so many of of the women Cosby "whistled" at were white: I think he found it as just satisfying to have breached American sexual barriers as he did to have breached the racial, social, and financial ones.

Camille Crosby may well have, either through action or inaction, abetted Bill Crosby in evading any charges or even public accusations for years. As the number of accusations has risen, is it believable that she heard and knew nothing?

(5,294 posts)1) Till was only accused of flirting with a white woman. Cosby was accused of drugging and raping multiple women of various races.
2) Unlike Till, Cosby actually was guilty.

Cosby was investigated after years of stories of drugging women. He was tried in a court of law. Evidence was collected, analyzed. Cosby had a lawyer present and argued on his behalf. He was found guilty, and is being sentenced.
But, yeah, except for all of the actual facts, they're just the same. for Camille.
