House leaders have enough votes to call special session on Greitens' woes
By Kurt Erickson St. Louis Post-Dispatch

JEFFERSON CITY • Republican leaders in the Missouri House have collected enough signatures to call a special session to hold possible impeachment proceedings against Gov. Eric Greitens.

Greitens lied to state ethics commission, took charity donor list, report says
Greitens lied to state ethics commission, took charity donor list, report says
The report contains evidence that Greitens and associates lied in campaign filings, a class A misdemeanor, and violated campaign finance law …

A day after the House released a second scathing report on the governor, lawmakers on both sides of the aisle said enough members of the House had signed the petition calling for the special session.

A count was underway in the Senate Thursday afternoon. Senators were meeting behind closed doors to discuss the matter.

"We should be pretty close," said Senate Majority Floor Leader Mike Kehoe, R-Jefferson City.

"I'm hopeful that we can proceed," added Senate President Pro Tem Ron Richard, R-Joplin.

It was not immediately clear when the session would begin if enough votes are secured in the Senate. But, the Legislature is scheduled to adjourn its regular session on May 18, four days after Greitens goes on trial in St. Louis for felony invasion of privacy

impeaching him rather they will put on a show to make it appear like they are willing to be tough on one of their own however they will have decide beforehand who will vote yes and who will vote no so they will end up with to few to impeach him.
That way come election time the ones in districts where the governor did poorly can claim they did their best where as the ones where he did better can claim they did their job to defend one of their own.

Not many GOP members like or trust him. It's no secret that he ran as a republican because he knew he couldn't beat the presumed Democratic candidate in a primary. He has no ideology other. than his own pursuit of power. He was an Obama delegate in '08. It looks like he followed the populist anti-Obama tide out of political self interest. But, no one really knows where he actually stands ideologically.

use it as leverage against him with a threaten to do it again and remove him if he refuses to play ball and vote how they want him to vote and when they tell him to.

Right to work, Medicaid cuts, killing protections against discrimination..... He has given them everything they want. What he did was so egregious that I think they truly are outraged. Blatently exploiting veterans for political gain. And they believed the woman who gave a very detailed description of sexual assault committed by him. Now, another woman has come forward. This is not sexual misconduct it's flat out rape documented in a house report.
Meanwhile, Claire Mcaskill is running for re-election and she has made it her mission to address sexual assault in the military. Being a Navy seal who sexually assaulted women, and exploited veterans makes him a huge liability. The GOP senate candidate has been relentlessly calling for Greitens to resign. If calling for his impeachment is a gimmick, I think it would be about protecting their senate candidate. Getting him out of office is gravy.

But it requires a Ted Bundy level of sociopathy to read this, believe it (as they say they do), and not want to get him out of office.

Power is a potent thing. These powerful men don't let go of it & hang on with their fingernails to the bitter end. It makes no sense. They have money and families and connections. They could move on and have a wonderful life, make a lot of money. But they insist on trying to hang on to power.

I read a piece by one of his former classmates that was brutal. I wish I could find it again. The whole story is very weird. The GOP primary field he joined had been accused of anti-Semitism by a potential candidate who committed suicide because of it. He overlooked that in his quest and possibly helped the GOP recover from those accusations.

It's particularly important for a site like that which insists on "no ad blockers", and is thus practically unviewable on Google Chrome (I eventually copied the text before the "go away" pop-up appeared, and it says nothing about impeachment at all).

Thanks,
