Detroit radio station hosts pull Kanye West's songs, saying they've had enough

Source: CNN

.
Kanye West's recent comments outraged a lot of people this week. And there's one group who no longer wants to hear any of it: the morning show hosts at Detroit radio station 105.1 The Bounce.

During a Facebook live video of the station's early show on Thursday, The Morning Bounce's hosts Shay Shay and BiGG announced they'll no longer play the rapper's songs.

"We are over it. We don't want to hear Kanye's music, we don't want to play Kanye on our show, we don't want to talk about Kanye anymore," they said. "So we are taking a stand and we aren't playing his music anymore; we just are refusing to give him a platform."

During the Thursday morning radio show, Shay Shay also called {Kanye} West "reckless" for saying icons like Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcolm X are "too far in the past and not relatable."

But my instinctive response is that that station's management have a point. How can anyone not be horrified at his statements (though I still wonder if they are not the unfortunate result of a mental health crisis)? Would we celebrate the music of an overt holocaust denier?

If this was a publicity stunt, I hope it does fail badly. If instead Kanye is actually in need of help, I hope he gets it and comes back healthy for a "second act". If he is really this ignorant and exploitative of centuries of pain, horror, and tragedy. then.... karma. Just my own opinion, but....

I'm curious. Who likes and buys his music? If it's mostly black people, why would he insult them by saying such an ignorant comment?

IE: a bunch of white out-of-touch boardroom execs making this decision because they're seizing an opportunity to stick it to a rich black person.

of unintended consequence, methinks. If sentiment like this grows nationally okay. Dr. King and Malcolm X are eternal. This guy is way out of touch.
