Following Tuesday nights primary in the Buckeye State, Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R) is withholding his endorsement of the GOP nominee for his seat, Attorney General Mike DeWine, over fears DeWine will dismantle the states Medicaid expansion that Kasich broke with his party to champion and implement.
Kasichs spokesman, Chris Schrimpf, said this week that the governor looks forward to meeting with Mike and discussing the concerns, including the states Medicaid expansion and other efforts to make sure that no Ohioan is left behind.
Kasich himself conspicuously dodged endorsing DeWine in a press conference on Wednesday, saying flatly about the primary: It was held and some people won.
Asked directly about the results of Tuesdays GOP contest, he emphasized that he feels very, very strongly about the issue of Medicaid expansion.

(149,607 posts)I really want to see DeWine lose, and lose decisively.

(70,501 posts)I haven't seen him in years but I do know John and in person he is very nice but
he is just as sleazy as any of them. When he was with Lehmann Brothers he sold
the State of OH's public employee retirement fund $480,000,000* of securities that
turned out to be junk ..... but Kasich got his cut.
* I think that was the amount.

(31,989 posts)for bucking his party on the Medicaid expansion. That's the only decent thing about him.
I despise De Wine. He's an old school backwards thinker whose TV ads bragged that he "Opposed Medicaid Expansion!" and "A Champion of the Right to Life"! (which seems counterproductive, doesn't it?)
But De Wine is a Republican and he has name recognition among the Deplorables living here, it's going to be a nail biter of an election this fall.
I would love to ask any Republican what exactly would they replace Medicaid with, if they are so against it? The never seem to have an answer for that. I guess they just want to go back to the Bush years when poor people had .... nothing.
