Oklahoma gov vetoes bill allowing adults to carry guns without a permit

Source: The HILL

.
Oklahoma's Republican Gov. Mary Fallin on Friday vetoed a bill supported by the National Rifle Association (NRA) that would have allowed state residents to carry a firearm without a permit or training.

"I believe the firearms laws we currently have in place are effective, appropriate and minimal," Fallin said in announcing her veto of Senate Bill 1212, which would have removed the requirement for Oklahoma residents to complete a training course and demonstrate competency with a firearm before carrying in public.

The governor argued that the bill would have taken away the ability of the state's law enforcement personnel to distinguish between someone trained to use a firearm and someone who is not.

"Oklahoma is a state that respects the Second Amendment. As governor, I have signed both concealed-carry and open-carry legislation. I support the right to bear arms and own a pistol, a rifle, and a shotgun," Fallin said in her statement.

For any idiot to be able to buy a high powered killing machine and use it with any permit or basic training? Are other gun owners, even Republicans, who have presumably gone through the required training and permit, actually ok with those coming up behind them to have no training whatsoever? Do these NRA gun nuts even think anything through? Its almost like they are pushing while the pushin's good. If they get away with even less restrictions and requirements they will. Lower the age limit. Fight background checks. And promote these kinds of bills in every Red State. And then when or if ever they were in a position to have to compromise, if Dems were, gawd forbid, in power. They'd be able to negotiate from a position high on the rubble heap of these kinds of crazy laws in order that if there was any drawing the line back, it would still be to a ridiculous reckless gun access.

And one of the biggest issues is people not understanding the responsibility that goes with firearms ownership. Decades ago it was passed down through families, today it's mostly paranoid people or those who think a gun makes them powerful who are buying.

So you think we should just hand every 16-18 year old a driver's license with no classes or experience and let them have at it?
