Mueller Plans to Wrap Up Obstruction Inquiry Into Trump by Sept. 1, Giuliani Says

WASHINGTON The special counsel plans to finish by Sept. 1 its investigation into whether President Trump obstructed the Russia inquiry, according to the presidents lawyer Rudolph W. Giuliani, who said on Sunday that waiting any longer would risk improperly influencing voters in the midterm elections in November.
The office of the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, shared its timeline about two weeks ago amid negotiations over whether Mr. Trump will be questioned by investigators, Mr. Giuliani said in an interview. A spokesman for the special counsels office declined to comment.
Mr. Giulianis comments were an apparent attempt to publicly pressure Mr. Mueller amid their interview negotiations. He urged that the investigation be wrapped up as soon as possible, pointing as a cautionary tale to the revelation by the former F.B.I. director James B. Comey in the last days of the 2016 presidential race that he was reopening the investigation into Hillary Clintons use of a private email server. Mr. Comeys announcement is widely blamed by Democrats for costing her the election. The F.B.I. found no wrongdoing.
You dont want another repeat of the 2016 election where you get contrary reports at the end and you dont know how it affected the election, Mr. Giuliani said.

(2,559 posts)And I find it hard to believe that Mueller would tip his hand like that.
Probably just another Trump trick to try to pressure Mueller, and potentially give Trump an excuse to fire him if the investigation isn't closed by then.
And using Comey's late 2016 campaign remarks about the Hillary email investigation as an example of what to avoid... can't get much more hypocritical than that.
This administration is too squirrelly for words.

(17,912 posts)Then again, given revelations, maybe the Mueller team doesn't care if it affects the elections. Maybe dragging Dumpster and the Rethuglican's dirty laundry all over the place from now until they're all politically dead as fucking door nails is is just what this country needs. Have drink, Rudy. Better yet, take the bottle. You look like you could use 20 or so.
I hate that worthless fucker with every fiber of my being.

The investigation needs to take as long as necessary.
This is complicated and complex. Less involved cases have taken longer than this -- and this is by far the most intricately interwoven global involvement.
This is going to hound Trump (and you) until it is over when Trump is indicted along with a few others (and probably including some politicians).
