The Senate intelligence committee has asked to interview Roger Stone, Donald Trumps longtime political adviser and self-described dirty trickster.
Stones lawyer, Grant Smith, told The Daily Beast that the committee last week sent them an email with a list of search terms for communications to use to determine which electronic communications to turn over to the Senate Intelligence Committee. At the same time, according to Smith, the committee said its members would like to question Stone after receiving the documents. Smith said the process has been amicable and that the interview date has not yet been set.
Stone told The Daily Beast he hopes the interview with the committee will be public, and said he has already begun to think about what to wear.
Last week, the Wall Street Journal reported that Stone, in emails written to an associate of WikiLeaks founder-slash-embassy crasher Julian Assange, had solicited damaging information about Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton in the late stages of the 2016 presidential campaign. That appears to be inconsistent with his September testimony before the House intelligence committee, when he said he merely wanted confirmation of Assange having dirt on Trumps political opponent.

(34,454 posts)I don't trust the Senate to do the right thing any more than the House. Nothing but softball, CYA questions.

(129,483 posts)Angus King (lawyer) & Kamala Harris (lawyer).
Warner (Vice-Chair & lawyer) and Feinstein will probably be firm but diplomatic. Manchin will be a notch under them. Wyden (lawyer) & Heinrich will be a notch above Warner & Feinstein.
But watch out for King & Harris to NOT throw softballs!

(34,454 posts)I saw the Kabuki Theater that was the House Intelligence Committee. They have a few hard asses on the committee, too, but they were effectively shut down. Perhaps I'm being too cynical.

(129,483 posts)are like day and night. Burr may try to "enforce" the time limits but remember that Nunes is basically a Russian agent and that whole committee is tainted by that. And regarding compelling an answer, realistically, they can't really do that as he could do a Sessions with the "I don't recall" or whatever. But I am wondering if they might decide to reconsider and do this in closed session like they did Bannon.
