BREAKING: Virginia Senate Votes To Expand Medicaid, Setting Up Final Passage

Source: Talking Points Memo

By Alice Ollstein | May 30, 2018 11:52 am

After years of political battles and weeks of procedural delays, the Virginia State Senate voted 23 to 17 Wednesday afternoon to expand Medicaid to cover between 300,000 and 400,000 more low-income residents.

Four Republicans joined every Senate Democrat in voting for the expansion. Last-minute lobbying against expansion by Trump administration officials, former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA) and the Koch brothers’ group Americans for Prosperity was not successful.

When the bill is signed into law, as expected later this week, Virginia will join 33 states and the District of Columbia in expanding Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act — though Maine is currently fighting the expansion’s implementation.

Virginia State Sen. Emmett Hanger Jr. (R), the sponsor of the Medicaid expansion amendment whose support got the measure over the finish line, appealed to his colleagues Wednesday in a drawn-out, heated floor debate to vote yes.

That smirking pasty faced sanctimonious creep makes scum bags seem only repulsive in comparison. He doesn't have one redeeming feature in his entire body and soul, the last of which is in serious question. What kind of being doesn't want people to have even minimal health care? The answer: filthy godless Republicans. I really hope there actually is a heaven and hell and they better hope that it is a myth. Just what kind of dispicable sub-human critter takes delight is seeing the innocent suffer? I think that it is disgusting for anyone, especially CNN, to pay that rotting pile of garbage one red cent to spew his hatred. He should be shunned like a rabid vermine.

We didn't quite succeed in flipping the Legislature, thanks to the GOP theft of a single vote on a single seat, but clearly they are feeling the heat.

I know what it took to do it here in PA and basically it wouldn't happen until after Wolf (D) got elected in 2014 and immediately moved to a full expansion vs the convoluted Corbett "alternative".

Proud to say I did a lot of canvassing for Northam... It's going to take efforts like this in every race to kick the GOP out of power...

Putting Little Ricky in as a lobbyist had to be the final nail in the coffin for the anti-expansion effort.
