GOP delays start of convention until Tuesday

Source: CNN

(CNN) - The Republican National Convention will convene on Monday and then immediately recess until the following afternoon due to Tropical Storm Isaac, Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus announced Saturday.

“Due to the severe weather reports for the Tampa Bay area, the Republican National Convention will convene on Monday August 27th and immediately recess until Tuesday afternoon, August 28th," RNC Chairman Reince Priebus announced Saturday. "After consulting with Governor Scott, NOAA and local emergency management officials, we are optimistic that we will begin an exciting, robust convention that will nominate the Romney-Ryan ticket.”

GOP Considers Delaying Convention

By Dan Eggen and Michael D. Shear
Washington Post Staff Writers
Friday, August 29, 2008

Republican officials said yesterday that they are considering delaying the start of the GOP convention in Minneapolis-St. Paul because of Tropical Storm Gustav, which is on track to hit the Gulf Coast, and possibly New Orleans, as a full-force hurricane early next week.

In it, Robertson asserts that Hurricane Gloria veered away from the Virginia coast after he and his staff prayed that it would.

One of the clips shows the evangelist describing last September how, with forecasters predicting 100-m.p.h. winds, "we gathered our staff together . . . we needed to pray and we did pray. . . . Something unusual happened. The storm in a sense broke off."

I think it is important to get the last word in, which is why I like that our convention comes last. I don't even know if it is feasible, but the last thing I would want is for the GOP convention to be delayed, in whole or in part, until after the Dem convention. Feel free to explain why I'm an idiot for worrying about this. In fact, I would appreciate it.

everyone has hotel reservations in Florida for next week. And airline reservations too.

There's no way everyone could change everything now - it just wouldn't be feasible.

If the GOP was not held next week it would be devastating to the hotels that would have empty rooms for four days, the restaurants that have tons of extra fresh food on hand for all the folks coming into the city, etc.

A little known Christian broadcaster in Colorado, Stuart Shepherd, asked his viewers to pray for bad weather for President Obama's outdoor acceptance speech? Turns out it was a beautiful clear summer evening. Fast forward four years and the Reps are running for cover.......
Mr. Shepherd used to be on the news in my hometown, I remebered him. I tried to contact him on face book and ask him what he thinks all this means. He has yet to reply to my inquiry.

Mitt is all those things, and he wants to steal this cheese wheel very much. I expect him to at least try.

And if he does pull it off, ask yourself what, exactly, Mitt plans to do going into a general election without enough undecideds out there to even get close enough to steal it. How is he going to take that decision out of the hands of the people?

That should scare us all shitless.

But in Denver, and then Chicago, the weather was good.

FWIW, though it's way too early to predict, the initial forecast for Obama's speech in Charlotte is 94 & sunny.
