Former CIA Head Compares Trump's Border Separation Policy to Nazi Germany

Source: Mediate

by Aidan McLaughlin | 5:32 pm, June 16th, 2018

Former CIA Director Michael Hayden issued a scathing rebuke of President Donald Trump‘s policy of separating migrant children from their families at the southern border on Saturday.

Hayden, a CNN contributor who served as CIA director under Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama, posted a photo of the infamous Auschwitz concentration camp on Twitter along with the caption, “Other governments have separated mothers and children.”

The Trump administration’s policy of separating migrant children from their families was first weighed when John Kelly served as the homeland security secretary in March 2017, and proposed the move in order to deter migrants from attempting to illegally cross the border.

The idea has been floated in previous administrations too, but according to the New York Times, “for George W. Bush and Barack Obama, the idea of crying children torn from their parents’ arms was simply too inhumane — and too politically perilous — to embrace as policy.”

Shots of them eating well balanced, school-type meals. Videos of them playing games outside (in reality, they get to go outside 2 hrs a day, I heard on tv). Organized, clean. They don't show the kennels with multiple youths in them, etc. Propaganda. It reminds me f propaganda films I saw clips of in documentaries about Nazi Germany.

This is really shocking.

Unfortunately, what the Republicans want is stronger, more inhumane laws with which to victimize refugees and immigrants, including those who've been here for years.

probably be able to make too expensive for him. Even the stupidest Nazis are coming to realize that just maybe doing this during the primaries and before people vote November 6 was not wise.

Did you hear that Trump wants to strip away a big chunk of the funding for the CHIP renewal they were forced to pass? The Repubs in congress at least know they need to wait until the elections are past.

People are demonstrating at concentration facilities in Texas today. Rep. Luis Gutierrez is on TV calling these atrocities "a tipping point." Let's hope so.

going on a road trip before long and I was looking for any already planned demonstrations yesterday. Unfortunately, a medical condition requires me to avoid heat and UV rays, which basically means we won't be heading for Texas or a big demonstration in DC (I'd love that!). We'd need to join small, accessible demonstrations. Our signs will ride under our mattress, though.

As for Trump, don't foget, we usually gain politically by the Republicans and Trump's dishonoring of agreements. Not an accident. Dishonor and dirty tricks among conservatives in Washington are expected and woven into our own strategies. The media tend to not cover us much, but Republicans breaking agreements with us of course provides enough drama and conflict to make the evening news.

This proved the case with torture, too. Hayden wasn’t yet at the C.I.A. when the agency, with the backing of the Bush White House and the Justice Department, tried waterboarding and other physical efforts to break Al Qaeda suspects in secret overseas prisons. By the time Hayden took over, many, though not all, of the practices had ended. Contemplating an order to subject a detainee named Muhammad Rahim al-Afghani to sleep deprivation and a liquid diet, Hayden writes, “I remember staring down at the page, pen in hand, hesitating to take that step.” Needless to say, he signed. Afghani’s interrogators got nothing useful from their prisoner; Hayden suggests that this was because the harshest techniques had by then been taken off the table.

Hayden insists that vital information about Al Qaeda came from these techniques. He’s contradicted by a thick Senate Intelligence Committee report, numerous journalistic investigations, and the accounts of certain intelligence officers. When it comes to detainee deaths, innocent men wrongfully held in brutal conditions, and other abuses, Hayden barely glances over his shoulder: “There were occasional mistakes.”
