Arizona remembers deadly day with bells, tears

TUCSON, Ariz. — Rep. Gabrielle Giffords led a crowd in the Pledge of Allegiance, her words ringing out across a cold Tucson night in a rare public appearance Sunday evening at a candlelight vigil one year after surviving a deadly shooting that killed six.

The Democratic congresswoman stepped onstage to cheers from the crowd. Ron Barber, a staffer who was wounded in a deadly shooting one year ago, invited her to lead the audience in the pledge.

The crowd chanted: "Gabby, Gabby."

She limped to the podium, and husband Mark Kelly helped lift her left hand over her heart. After a year in which she has struggled to speak, Giffords recited the pledge with the audience, head held high and a smile on her face as she punched each word.

Was the sporting goods store open today? I bet it was. Was that insensitive?

The gun show didn't have a damn thing to do with this tragedy. Nothing at all.

How convenient to see the world so clearly pigeonholed for your preferences.

If the gun show had been in ANY WAY involved, I might see your point. The show scheule was likely set more than a year in advance. I'm hard pressed to think of a reason why they would change it.

You "fail to see..." sound more like "you refuse to see..." what is obvious to many. Close shop for the one hour. Put a sign up saying you'll be open in an hour or whatever. Ya know the bottom dollar doesn't have to always be the end all.

Sometimes being decent and thoughtful is the right thing to do and no one will take away your god given right to own as many guns as you see fit. You gun owners are the most paranoid people I've ever talked to. You think everyone is out to take your guns away, when no such thing is being planned.

There isn't any. None. No link at all.

Nobody but you brought up 'taking away guns' or paranoia or anything.

It's the natural extension of your "logic".

for over a year before the incident?

The one where they immediately cancelled all recreational activities, and held only the meetings required by their charter/legal/tax code incorporation?

That "Denver"?
