Mitt Romney clinches the Republican nomination
Source: Washington Post
TAMPA --Mitt Romney became the Republican nominee for president on Tuesday afternoon, passing the required threshold of 1,144 delegates in a roll-call vote of convention delegates here.
<snip>
But usual happy choreography of a convention roll-call came on a day of headaches for GOP bosses. Unhappy supporters of Texas Rep. Ron Paul, another presidential candidate, booed and chanted as the party adopted rules that could weaken their power in future elections. During the roll call, Ron Paul supporters from Nevada gave their five delegates to Romney with obvious reluctance.
When those rules were put to the convention for a vote, Paul supporters shouted no, and Seat Maine now! They shouted down one speaker, and forced Republican party chairman Reince Priebus to wield his gavel and demand order.
The ayes didnt have it! Jon Burrows, a delegate from Texas, said after one of the votes. Theyre just railroading this thing through.

Poor Romney, his coronation was still marred by those people!

(19,458 posts)Frankly, I'm shocked that the MSM is actually reporting on the dissent at all. They should have more info on that, of course, as many States had more Paul delegates than Romney delegates. that's troubling for Romney. I don't see the Paul voters holding their nose and voting for Romney... I'm thinking write-in

(950 posts)underwhelming response by the crowd to Rmoney's nomination was any clue, I don't think he's going to get much of a "bounce" out of this. Maybe a couple of points.
The crowd struck me as largely unenthusiastic.
It'll be interesting to see the Democratic Convention, and the kind of reaction President Obama gets when re-nominated. And, to see if he gets any "bounce".
And of course, the debates should provide interesting as well. How well will the MittBot 3000 do against President Obama?

(950 posts)aren't too enthusiastic. Which is a good thing.
Of course, their sheer, fanatical, batshit insane hatred for President Obama burns with the fiery hatred of a thousand suns, but is that enough to motivate them to turn out and vote for Rmoney?
I really don't have an answer to that one, to be honest......only time will tell.
What I do have, as a concern, is that many of these of same folks, especially on the extreme right, are pretty well-known as damned sore losers. I maintain that when President Obama is re-elected, some of these nutburgers are going to try and start something.
