Former adviser to President Trumps campaign, George Papadopoulos, has decided to stick with the plea deal he reached with the federal government over charges of lying to the FBI, ABC News reported. The decision, shared with ABC by his wife Simona Mangiante Papadopoulos, comes after weeks of vacillating over whether he planned to follow through with the agreement ahead of his sentencing next month.
George will take responsibility for some inaccuracies during the interview with the FBI, Mangiante Papadopoulos told ABC News on Wednesday, saying she is hopeful her husband will not receive jail time, despite prosecutors gunning for at least six months behind bars.
In recent weeks, Mangiante Papadopoulos has told several media outlets that she and Papadopoulos felt he was being framed by shady individuals with an agenda who were specifically targeting him.
Papadopoulos pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about his contacts with a professor who had Kremlin connections and agreed to cooperate with special counsel Robert Mueller as he probes Russian election meddling and the Trump campaign.
