Former Mexican president Vicente Fox is condemning U.S. President Donald Trumps approach to trade policies, which left Canada out of a bilateral trade deal between the U.S. and Mexico.
The bilateral deal was announced in place of the North American Free Trade Agreement earlier this week, and has left Canada scrambling to negotiate its own deal with the U.S. by Friday.
Fox made the comments during an exclusive interview with Global News Alan Carter on Thursday.
While he said the deal between the U.S. and Mexico was good for Mexico, he agreed theres now additional pressure put on Canada to agree to the terms.

(49,007 posts)Trump's real reason for the deadline is not Mexico; it is the Midterm elections.
If the deadline slips, Trump-Tariffs would sabotage the one issue he has going for him: the economy. Or at least the one he has a slim chance of convincing voters that he is winning on.
He is further constrained that he can't make a two-way deal with Mexico without 60 votes in the Senate. He can present a three-way deal for fast-track approval with only 50 votes. He can't exit NAFTA without Congress, but whether that requires 60 votes in the Senate or not, I don't know.
Trump may have more to lose than Canada if he tries to be too hard nosed and unwilling to make concessions.
