Dems want briefing on Trump claims of Chinese election meddling

Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee have requested an intelligence briefing on President Trump’s accusations that China has tried to interfere in the midterm elections.

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), the committee’s ranking member, told The Hill Thursday that the minority has requested a briefing before the House’s next recess on Trump's claims. “We have requested to be briefed on what he was referring to,” Schiff said. “We expect that we will, before we recess, have the opportunity to ask just what he is talking about.”

On Wednesday, Trump accused China of trying to meddle in the elections during a speech at a United Nations Security Council meeting in New York.

“Regrettably, we found that China has been attempting to interfere in our upcoming 2018 election,” Trump said. “They do not want me or us to win because I am the first president ever to challenge China on trade.”

An idee fixe can be a great thing, but it can also constitute blinders or progress to a kind of monomania. I put China in the same category I put Russia in 2010-2012. When the '80s "wanted their foreign policy back" and it was offensive to right-thinking people to consider Russia a "foe" (my, the effrontery of anybody making that claim ... Oops).

It hadn't occurred to me to demand Trump produce to congress hard evidence for one of his flippant lies, but that's why Schiff makes the big bucks. I can see the face plants in the White House as they face yet another challenge to craft a model of something that only exists in Trump's head.

Perhaps he'll spend the week tweeting about China instead of calling women lying whores.
