Kemp's office opens investigation into Georgia Democrats for 'possible cybercrimes'

The office of Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp, the state's Republican gubernatorial nominee, said Sunday it has opened an investigation into the state's Democratic Party for possible unspecified cybercrimes after an attempted hack of the state's voter registration system.

"While we cannot comment on the specifics of an ongoing investigation, I can confirm that the Democratic Party of Georgia is under investigation for possible cyber crimes," Candice Broce, press secretary for Kemp's office, said in a statement.

"We can also confirm that no personal data was breached and our system remains secure," she added.

The announcement comes two days before Election Day, when Kemp faces Democrat Stacey Abrams in the governor's race. Kemp has rebuffed calls to resign his position as secretary of State while he campaigns, with critics citing conflicts of interest.

Facing Voter Suppression Claims, Georgia GOP Candidate Launches Investigation into Democrats over Alleged Hacking Attempt

by Alberto Luperon 9:17 am, November 4th, 2018

The Office of Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp, facing multiple claims of voter suppression, announced an investigation into the Democratic Party of Georgia over an alleged hacking attempt into the voter registration system.

"While we cannot comment on the specifics of an ongoing investigation, I can confirm that the Democratic Party of Georgia is under investigation for possible cyber crimes," said Press Secretary Candice Broce in a news release. "We can also confirm that no personal data was breached and our system remains secure."

The office of the Secretary of State said that the investigation started Saturday evening, and they told federal agencies like the Department of Homeland Security and Federal Bureau of Investigation about it. It's unclear how Democrats were supposedly linked to the alleged hacking attempt.

The Democratic Party of Georgia, DHS, and FBI did not respond to Law&Crime requests for comment.

This investigation comes at a pretty fraught time, so to speak. Kemp is running for governor against Democratic candidate Stacey Abrams, has refused to recuse himself in the event of a recount, and voiced concern about Abrams' campaign to mobilize voters. Meanwhile, his office faces claims of voter suppression, and hasn't been doing too well in court. U.S. District Court Judge Eleanor Ross ruled Friday that he must let over 3,000 new U.S. citizens vote in the upcoming midterm elections in spite of supposed problems with their citizenship. She voiced concern that the practice disproportionately affected a group that was "predominantly minorities." The Secretary of State's office has also faced a stiff court battle over its handling of absentee ballots.

He is planning ahead to declare himself winner despite the results. Who names a suspect without some type of proof. IF there was indeed a hacking attempt, they would either have concrete evidence of who did it, or they would know nothing at this point. By pointing at his opponent, he is trying to eliminate his competition.

Kemp is so beyond conflict-of-interest at this point. He's just blatantly stealing the election.

Is anyone even asking that question?

It's the republican playbook where they string buzz words currently in the news together and decide to investigate to confuse their base.

Like when the FBI was investingating HRC's email server, and they conflated that with "her emails" as if the investigation was about missing emails.

Their stratey works well to get misleading headlines into the news cycle for their low info voters and gives faux news something to run with.
