The Republican Party has aired eight times as many ads focused on crime and public safety as it did during the last midterm election, according to a HuffPost analysis, a reflection of President Trumps strategy of trying to fire up the GOPs base with fear.
During the last midterm elections, in 2014, Republicans running for House and Senate seats aired ads about public safety more than 12,000 times
That number spiked to nearly 107,000 for the 2018 election, an increase of more than 800 percent.

(23,099 posts)9 people from drumpfs admin. have been indicted and 4 convicted (zero from OBama) and Zinke is currently being investigated (I don't actually believe this is happening, just another pretense like with Kavarape). Violent hate crimes (99% from rw'ers) increased both in 2017 & 2018 and shows no signs of slowing, in fact keeps ramping up. Wages have stayed flat but incomes for rich soared 20% with tax cuts for millionaires/billionaires. President is trying to break the constitution unilaterally and is spending millions to send military to the border before the elections in a totally naked and stupid political ploy when the people he's trying to stop are unarmed and mainly women & children. They always do what drumpf does, try to pin their own acts on others. They are vile and sick and weak, just like him.

(36,806 posts)Republicans like to blame democrats for illegals and violence.
Republican illegal alien Christian Rivera killed Mollie Tibbets in Iowa.
Republican illegal Franklin Freddy Meave Vazquez Jr. was released by the Trump administration and killed a shipmate on a fishing boat.
Republican illegal Luis Bracamontes was released by Joe Arpaio and later killed two policemen.

(36,806 posts)Why is Trump 'allowing' violence done to Americans?
When Trump accepted the GOP nomination:
"I have a message for all of you: the crime and violence that today afflicts our nation will soon come to an end," he said. "Beginning on January 20th, 2017, safety will be restored."

(767 posts)Those who vote GOP have very little brains which scare easily. They are afraid of poor hopeless people coming to the USA. I think they are afraid because of the years they have historically inbreed. These people have lived in the same area for hundreds of years. No new blood, so they are practically born with "old man disease." Why be afraid of "new blood" unless they are locked into their pathetic "inbreeding" process.

Because its a catch 22. Once the party using fear has ginned up the population on fear, even baseless fear, if the other party's message is "Don't worry, be happy", or in other words, support keeping the status quo, they will be painted as soft on terror, crime, gangs, etc etc...which only sends even more frightened sheep to the first party. And of course if the second party joins in, with a message that sure there are threats, but to trust them instead.....people are going to look at them as riding coattails, and will vote for the Fear Party over the Fear-Lite Party every time.
